I’m at it again! This time, I’m already getting ready for the weekend - and it’s only Tuesday where I am. Just thought I’d get a head start
Don’t get me wrong. I still need to prioritize work. I just wanted to find out what my next project would be … then I thought why not open it so I can see the pieces and psych myself up in case it would be a challenging kit. Let’s see how long I can hold out
It’s the Sweet Dream Bedroom . It’s such a tiny kit, which is perfect because I can easily find a little spot for it in my display cabinet once it’s finished.
I’ve already prepped my craft corner, and I just saw the cutest bunny slippers
I’ve also scanned the instructions manual and saw that there are three pages that need to be cut out. I’m not that great in cutting so good luck to me I think this is my cue to find the best lighting possible before I start—I definitely don’t want to make any cutting mistakes!
That got me wondering…when you’re cutting out paper pieces, do you cut right on the printed line, just inside it, or just outside it?
Sometimes I feel like cutting just inside the line gives a cleaner result, but then I worry I’ll end up making the pieces too small. I’d love to hear your tips before I dive in this time!
I always try my best to cut on the printed line…but in the end, I would rather snip away a bit of white edge, rather than seeing that white edge showing.
Hahaha, I know that feeling! Sometimes just opening the box and looking through all the pieces is part of the excitement. The Sweet Dream Bedroom is such an adorable choice,I can’t wait to see those bunny slippers come together! As for cutting, I usually try to cut right on the line as much as possible. If I need to choose, I’d rather leave a tiny bit extra than make the piece too small. A sharp craft knife and good lighting make a huge difference too. Wishing you lots of patience and happy building this weekend!
@Gidge opening the box on Tuesday and trying to wait until the weekend is a challenge of its own! Sweet Dream Bedroom is a lovely compact choice, and your plan for sharp lighting before cutting those three paper pages is already a smart start—the bunny slippers deserve careful work.
@MamaNheza cutting on the line while leaving a tiny margin when uncertain is a very practical rule. Pairing that with a sharp craft knife and strong lighting gives a new builder both accuracy and a little room to correct the edge later.
When I need to cut things I always try to stay on the cutting line. I have a precision knife which is okay for bigger paper cuts and easy shapes. But when I have to cut really small ones or special shapes I use my mom’s knife, because it is a lot sharper and cuts through paper like it’s butter.
Thank you! That’s really good advice. I like the idea of leaving a tiny margin when I’m unsure,it gives a little room to tidy up the edges afterward if needed. I’ll definitely be making sure I have good lighting and a sharp craft knife ready before I start. Hopefully my cutting will be a little neater this time!
