Hello, I’ve just started the Emily’s Flower Shop, my first kit which was a gift and I am really enjoying it so far! But I’ve a few issues I hope you can help with.
1 THE GLUE. It’s very sticky and I seem to get it everywhere, so my pieces look untidy. I’ve tried toothpicks but still not great.
2. WIRES. How on earth do you glue wires on to pieces, like the legs on the stool and wooden table?
3. PAINTING. Do you paint all the wooden pieces? So the ones that are watered down as shown and the rest not watered down.
Thanks, I am sure I’ll be back with more questions
I haven’t build this one, but I’ve been checking the PDF online for the instructions so I can try and give you some proper answers, if not based on experience under this particular build.
THE GLUE: As I’m seeing this kit doesn’t include glue itself (99% of Rolife/ROKR kits are glue-free) but it comes with double-sided tape stickers. Have you tried those? They’re supposedly meant for this kind of build to precisely avoid the kind of messy-looking effect of the glue if you’re not that familiar on using it with tiny DIY parts like those
WIRES: If you’re following the instructions properly, there’s no point in which you’re sticking wires to any mini-furniture pieces at all, it’s just going through the walls and ceiling, and you’re sticking them with the provided stickers for it (or, alternatively, you can use tape)
PAINTING: I can’t properly help you there since I haven’t painted any kits yet (or any wood for that matter), but many people here use acrylic paint markers and stuff like that and it usually works pretty well. People like @Nita_Davis or @Tricia12 or @Jill_Francisco who are usually painting it all ( ) may be of much better help than myself on this one
Thanks for the mention Eloy. But I consider myself a noob in painting hahaha but you are right, I used acrylic markers and acrylic paint in tubs. I initially used brushes but found that coverage was not consistent so we tried using rollers which was much better.
Welcome Claire.
As we work, we find things that work for each of us, but I’ll share what I use.
Glue- I use a few different ones according to what I am doing. I have two glues which as B7000, stick or craft glue for large paper surfaces, and UV glue for intricate beadwork or wire work.
Wires - I use UV glue, and I also use jewels making tools to do my wire work. If you are referring to electrical wires, there are different ways of attaching them. Some use tape, one of our members has used plastic tubing to run them through to keep them today, or UV glue.
Painting - I use acrylic paint markers myself.
@Clare_Preston welcome to the group …
I use b7000 glue
2 I use acrylic paint paints to customise
Things id like to change
3 A hot glue gun comes in handy ..
I can see @TheToday has posted some good advice and others I hope it goes well
Thanks for your advice. This kit definitely does come with glue, not double-sided tape plus plus u need to use wire on stalls and tables for the legs which are glued on
Hi Clare. Welcome to the community. I use regular white glue for anything that I can. Wires definitely require an instant bonding glue like Super Glue…or loctite gel. I often use a toothpick as well. As for painting, I use Apple Barrel acrylics from Walmart. I wish you many happy building days ahead.
Welcome to the community!
Emily’s Flower Shop is such a lovely first kit. For glue I use a lot of superglue, I use one with a brush applicator, and if I use white glue, I like applying it with a silicone brush so I don’t ruin a regular one, or with a toothpick for a cleaner finish. The wires usually end up blending in more than it seems at first, and for painting, acrylic paints or acrylic markers both work really well depending on what you prefer. Try a few things and I’m sure it’ll turn out great. Be patient, enjoy it, and for anything else, we’re here!
Thank you for mentioning @TheToday . Welcome to the community @Clare_Preston . I tend to use acrylic markers more thân acrylic paint from tub. For small details i found that the markers are easier to work with and less messy. And they dry up quickly as well.
For glue, I tend to use B7000 thật comes with small nozzle so it’s easier to apply. If I get too much excess of glue then I use acetone to slightly clean it off. But just be really careful when using acetone. Do test on small areas first. Acetone is great to clean off glue residue on your fingers and tools.
Welcome to the wonderful world of miniatures, and we are so happy you chose Emily’s Flower Shop for your first project. For those tricky wire legs, using a tiny drop of glue and holding them steady works wonders, and you can paint the pieces however they look best to you. You are doing a fantastic job, and we cannot wait to see your finished creation.
Welcome to the community! I typically use super glue but I know other people on here use different types of glue. I don’t do many Rolife kits so I can’t help with the other two questions I’m afraid. I hope someone else on here has the answers for you!
