Adventures in RF intercepting or: Morse kit decoder!

Totally agree. Maybe one day when i get rich

I’m excited for you and seeing your industrial city starting to take shape!

Two years ago, China’s last telegraph station slipped quietly into history, and the old Morse signals that had wandered across the Atlantic for a century faded into silence.
It isn’t a refusal of modern power. It’s simply the belief that some things deserve to be remembered by those who still feel their pulse.
Wishing you a smooth and delightful crafting journey ahead.

UPDATE!

Finally, I got an update, though it won’t be much, and it’s not a really “good” one

I finally received the RF sensor that I bought, to try and catch the signals from the kit. That’s the good news.
The bad news is, despite following instructions, I cannot get it to detect anything.
Not just from the kit, I mean, at all.

I either got scammed, got a defective one, or messed up the wiring somewhere….

So… i’m going to keep at it, and ask on some specialised forums to see what I might be missing here, and as soon as I get it to function, I’ll focus on using it as I intended: a real morse code decoder for the kit!

This is way above my pay grade but I find this really interesting! Please keep us updated! I’m so excited to see if you can make your idea work :star_struck:

Update:

Not been very active on the community here, because irl got me in a chokehold ^^”

BUT I found an electronic club/space that I can bring this too, so we can check the board and components to see if they’re faulty, the guys seems super nice and helpful when I told them about the project and how I was dabbling in electronics XD

At least I’ll be sure of where the issue is, and if maybe we can finally get the hardware part to work, so I can work my magic with making a software to show the morse code on screen!

Just returning from the club/fablab.
They helped me test the RF sensor, and the rokr circuits to see why I couldn’t get it working.

The RF sensor is burnt, for starter, so I’m going to have to get another one. They advised me another type than the one I have too, one that has more range and can catch more stuff.

We also tried catching the signal from Rokr chipset, to test it, but they didn’t have another sensor for 2.4 Ghz without protocol (most sensor in that range nowadays don’t catch signals that don’t have wifi protocols)

So I’m going to get that other sensor they advised me and go back there to set it up.

I am NOT giving up on this project, I will get that morse decoder working or go insane trying XD

I believe you will get this going! Did you ever hear back for username?

thanks, it’s certainly an exercise in frustration XD

Not yet… which means it’s not a no yet either XD

WOW! I admire your perseverance. I hope that all of your issues can be resolved.

Hi, long time!

Sadly this time I come bearing bad news… which I should have had noticed from the start, that’s a lot my fault.

Ok, for those still following here is the context:

When I received this kit, I did two things instantly: check it was complete. And take out the electronic board to be able to test the whole RF thing.

What i didn’t do was: look at the instructions. At all. I wanted to assemble the kit only AFTER I was done with the RF interception.

Then I did all the tentatives I posed about, as well as dealt with some real life stuff (it’s been a long february, I wasn’t in the mood for craft, let’s leave it at that)

Coming back to the kit after a months, with still no progress, I thought “eff it, I’mma assemble it, if I need access to the board I’ll just disassemble it again”
And then I read the instructions. For the first time. In full.

And at the end it says “This model can be controlled but cannot control other models.”

Or in terms of my project: this model DOES NOT EMIT ONLY RECEIVE SIGNALS!!!

I… I’m both insanely pissed at myself and sad, because this means what I was hoping to do is just not doable at all. It’s impossible to intercept a signal that isn’t being emitted. And I wasted months trying when I could have known from the start if I’d just read the effing manual. So yeah, lesson learned I guess.

I’m going to see if I can think of another way to do this, sound detection maybe instead, but it’s going to be a lot less accurate, and after months and months, and this, my heart isn’t really in it anymore.

I’m sorry to anyone that followed the topic and won’t have a satisfying result.
