When I first started building miniatures, it was supposed to be a relaxing hobby. My very reasonable plan? ONE KIT PER MONTH. Twelve kits a year. Simple. Manageable. Under control.
Then I discovered a physical store carrying so many miniature kits. The moment I found it, I bought THREE kits. It wasn’t even on sale! My justification? “It’s 15 minutes away by car. I might as well stock up while I’m here!”
Then came the sales. The meetups. This community. All the beautiful models I never knew existed. And suddenly, my carefully planned hobby became an addiction. ![]()
So I tried to set a limit: 12 kits. One for every month. Recently, I FINALLY managed to bring my stash down to 12. I was so proud of myself! ![]()
Except… I forgot about the TWO kits sitting in my bedroom, away from the stash, a new flower kit, a leaderboard prize, another kit I found online on sale, and another flower kit I’d bought earlier (which, by the way, was picked by my own Wheel of Tiny Wonders as my next build
). And now, there’s another kit coming for my Halloween customization project.
And just like that… I’m back to 19 kits. ![]()
But wait! My stash isn’t the only problem. I currently have 15 kits on my wish list. FIFTEEN. And that’s a completely separate list!
And then there’s my online shopping cart, quietly waiting for me to make my next questionable decision.
Seriously, though, I think I really need to learn some self-control. I love this hobby, and I don’t want it to become a case of buying more kits than I can realistically build. The goal is to enjoy the building, not just the collecting! ![]()
So here’s my new challenge: no more buying just because a kit is cute, on sale, or suddenly on my radar.
Wish me luck, fellow miniature addicts. I have a feeling I’m going to need it! ![]()
