Some of my fondest childhood memories begin with something as simple as a library card. I still remember the excitement of getting my very first library card during my grade school days. To me, it felt like I had been given a passport to an entire world of stories. I could walk into the library, look through the shelves, choose a book, and bring home a whole new adventure.
I remember the very first book I read—Rumpelstiltskin. I was fascinated by the story, the characters, and the magical world inside those pages. I was hooked.
After that, the library became one of my favorite places. I would frequently borrow books and bring them home to read. As I grew older, my taste in books grew with me. During my teenage years, I discovered pocketbooks and novels, and I could spend hours getting lost in their stories. I spent hours in the bookstore looking at the back covers to have a glimpse of the storyline. Then came the Kindle and the wonderful world of e-books. Suddenly, I could carry hundreds of stories in one little device. It was convenient, practical, and perfect for a book lover. But there is still something special about holding a physical book. There is the texture of the cover, the sound of turning pages, and even that unmistakable smell of an old or freshly printed book. There are the little bookmarks tucked between the pages, marking the exact spot where you stopped reading. Somehow, holding a real book feels like holding a little piece of a memory. I am glad that Rolife had created Pagestory. Reflects how a tiny bookshop can bring back such big memories. This kit reminds me of the little girl who found a whole world between the pages of a book… and never stopped loving stories.
First of all, congratulations to Sam on such a beautiful design!! Sam’s Study was actually my very first miniature kit, and even though it was quite a challenge for a complete beginner, I enjoyed every single part of the process. I’d been looking forward to this new bookstore ever since I first saw the design online, so I’m really excited that it’s finally available. Honestly, I’d happily build every bookstore Rolife releases, I love them.
I’ve been an avid reader since I was little. During my teenage and university years, I even ran a blog about children’s and young adult literature, and it actually won an award at the time! Now that I work with children, one of my favourite things is recommending books based on their individual tastes. I’m especially proud when a child who thought they simply didn’t like reading finally finds the right book and suddenly starts devouring stories.
When I was growing up, there wasn’t nearly as much variety available for me as there is today. Harry Potter was especially important to me because I grew up alongside Harry as each new book was released, which made the whole series feel even more special. I also read and reread practically everything from my favourite section of our local library.
Fantasy has always had a special place in my heart, with all those magical worlds to disappear into. I also love historical fiction and, of course, those stories where two characters barely brush hands and somehow that’s the most exciting thing ever ehhehe
I loved my ZX Spectrum video games computer. One of my favourite games was an adventure game called The Hobbit.
One day an electronics store near me had a fire. Afterwards they sold some stock that got water damage from the sprinklers, for very cheap. I bought a book called The Hobbit thinking it was about the game. To my surprise it was just a fantasy story.
So my very first novel was JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit.
And I still own that water damaged copy, sold without a cover, more than 40 years later!
I still love visiting bookstores. There is something about the smell of the pages that draws me in.
Growing up, I read a lot of Enid Blyton and loved The Faraway Tree and The Wishing Chair. I also adored her fairy stories and believed that at night my dolls and toys came to life and played with the fairies.
In my teenage years, the book series that stuck with me and ignited my love of urban fantasy was The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper.
My favorite book from my youthful days is probably the Little Prince. I really love that story and the perception that you will get from the book will differ as you grow old. I love the learnings there especially the quote of the wise fox which is ‘It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.’
Oooh, so many memories raised by looking at this kit! Lol, and I was the kid you mention who always had their nose in a book By the time I was 10 years old I had read every single book in our community library, and I was moving onto the adult books (my parents couldn’t keep up the costs of keeping me stocked with books at the pace I read!).

I did so much reading growing up and still enjoy reading to relax before bed. When I was a small child before I could read my mom read Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes to me every evening. This time spent together started my love for reading. Some of my early favorites were The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Charlotte’s Web, The Boxcar Children Series, and the Anne of Green Gables books. As a teen I was one of the few that enjoyed assigned reading in school. The Old Man and the Sea was one of favorites from that time. After school I worked part time at a small town book store until after graduation. And now as an adult I love reading even more, nothing better for me than curling up with a good mystery book and a cup of hot chocolate.
Omg I need this! I love doing book themed builds. I find the repetition and minor challenge of book making so relaxing. I’ve been wanting one to customize too and this one would be great for that.
I read so many books as a child but my favorite series had to be Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. I reread these books over and over and never got tired of them. My mom also read to me a lot when I was younger so I have quite a few picture books that I’m fond of.
I was an avid reader of Fantasy. Especially the Harry potter series. Magic, friends, plots and plottwist. I think I’ve read all the books atleast twice! But when the movies came out, they weren’t like the movies I’ve made while reading.
There isn’t a bookstore that holds my memory, but rather a library. I traveled to Sweden a long time ago, and we went to a big public library. It still lingers in my head as one of the most beautiful places: 2 stories, round and books everywhere the eye can see! Even thinking back to it, it makes me smile!
