👍 [Quality Post] Describing my other hobbies (Knitting/Crochet)

All my childhood, my mother taught me various creative activities. I crocheted and knitted, embroidered with floss and beads, made lace, sewed clothes, drew, sculpted from clay, and much more. I grew up in a very artistic family: my dad is a videographer, my mom is a vocal teacher and a craftswoman, and my sister is a photographer.

When I moved to Poland at the age of 16, I forgot many of my old hobbies, but I still continue to practice some of them today. This time, I want to show you some of my knitted creations and tell you a little bit about each of them.

Star Sweater — This was my first knitted garment in a long time. I finished it in just two weeks, despite preparing for my exams at the time in 2023. I still love wearing it.

Two micro scarves in burgundy and lilac. This was a trendy accessory back then, and I decided to make my own.

Two gradient sweaters — one purple, one blue. I knitted the purple one for myself, designing the sleeve pattern on my own. When I wore it to my technical school, my math teacher fell in love with it and asked me to make a similar one for her daughter — and that’s how the blue one came to be!

A forest and moss inspired bag — This was a birthday gift for my best friend on April 30, 2025. She really loved it.

Two covers — one for my thermos, so it doesn’t burn my hands, and one for my phone (I have a foldable model).

A long red scarf — I knitted it in December last year, and it even visited a beautiful Christmas market in Wrocław.

A red airy sweater — still in progress.

In the future, I’ll show you my other hobbies, such as embroidery, beaded jewelry, sculpting and painting polymer clay, and plants.

What’s one lesson from your parents that you remember from childhood? What did they teach you then that you’re proud of now?

Nice post to get to know you better! We have something in common — I also crochet. My grandmother was a seamstress, and I always saw her working on huge blankets that took her years to complete. I only picked it up last year when I was looking for a new hobby. I started sewing and now I love it! I don’t make clothes, but rather amigurumi, dolls, and above all, I love making gifts crafted with love — just like miniatures, hehe.

That’s so cool — having someone creative in the family, in your case, your beloved grandmother. I really admire people who can read amigurumi patterns correctly; for me, that’s the hardest part! That’s why I mostly knit with needles and only crochet from time to time

One of my grandmothers was an architect. I often came across her old building blueprints and room layouts, and I was always amazed at how she could understand it all..

If you knit with needles and do some crochet, reading patterns will be super easy for you
In my case, I come from a family of teachers, seamstresses, mechanics, and IT professionals. When I was little, I wanted to be a journalist because I loved reading and writing, but then I changed my mind and became a primary school teacher — nothing to do with it, heheh.
Making miniatures, crochet, reading, and playing video games are just hobbies that I truly love

So cool!!!

Nice to know you better. You are so creative!
I also crocheted for a short while, until I decided to make a blanket for my first nephew’s birth. It just seemed endless, and I finally gave up and stopped. The blanket was never finished and ended up in the trash

Oh no! What a bummer… I totally understand you on this. Starting a big project is one thing, but having the patience to finish it is another. I just remembered I once wanted to make a tote bag and a pillowcase. The tote was supposed to be made of two crocheted squares with bunny patterns. But after finishing one, I realized I couldn’t take it anymore  Now it’s a mat for my cat — along with part of the tote.

Your cat has such a cute mat now :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
I made a tote bag and actually finished it! That’s quite an achievement. I made it in one piece, not from granny squares. I’d like to make something with grannies, but I still don’t know what yet haha

What a beautiful piece :heart_eyes: I love the gradient yarn you chose for this tote! Looks for me like a sea, I think if you decorate it with shells and pearls, it will definitely look like a sea!

Yes! I chose this color because, for me, it feels like summertime :star_struck:

Okay, let me think about it. Let’s see what comes to my mind

There are some very artistic genes running within your family. My mother taught me how to sew and embroider. Although I don’t do it often enough anymore, I still love knowing HOW to do the craft.

I don’t often spend time on my hobbies either, except for drawing, since illustrating is my main and only source of income at the moment. But sometimes, when I come across interesting ideas online related to knitting or embroidery, I instantly rush out to buy everything for it and get straight to work :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Would you mind showing your projects, if you have any with you? I’m really curious!
