This tip is NOT for every component that requires edge painting.
It works best on straight edges and slightly curved ones.
Found this edger tool out on TaoBao. Am always on the look-out for tools that can help make the builds go easier. It’s main functional use is in leather crafting and edge treatments.
It is all brass machined and comes with two inter-changeable application wheels.
Cost? Less than US$3.00.
The trick to using is have the paint thinned out so the wheel picks it up and places the media on your edge. It takes a few passes of dragging a test part on the wheel to figure out pressure, flow rate and coverage. However, once dialed in, this edger lays down the media quickly and evenly. There are several different types of edgers on the market, mostly they are plastic with only a metal wheel. I went with the solid metal one because clean up is way easier. Lift out the wheel and flush both with warm water. The plastic ones looked to be too hard to clean out after each use.
I kept the media a bit thick on this edge for aging the edge just before install on my build. The wheel applicator laid it down perfectly!
Cheers to all the builders and edge painters out there !
This is such a clever tip! I love finding simple tools that can make repetitive steps like edge painting quicker and more even. And under $3 is a great find! Thanks for sharing this with the community.
