Today marks 12 years since Michael and I said “I do,” and I wanted to share a couple of builds that mean the world to me.
Building miniature kits has become such a special way to show the people I love how much they mean to me, and these two projects were labor of love in the best way possible.
Project 106 is this adorable little Paris TV that I found at Walmart, and I have to say, I was amazed at how tiny it actually is. But don’t let the size fool you — it’s absolutely magical. It came with a single LED light strip across the top front that does the most beautiful color-changing sequence: sunrise, midday, sunset, and night. Watching it shift through those warm glows is so mesmerizing. It creates the most incredible ambience in such a small space. Michael loves Paris and everything about it, so this felt like the perfect anniversary gift for him. ![]()
Project 107 is a windup music box with the cutest little knitting cat that rocks back and forth while a dancing cat in the middle does something I still can’t quite believe — it doesn’t just twirl in a circle. The way it moves is so intricate: it goes right, left, front, back, all in this tight little pattern about the size of a quarter. It’s like watching a cat actually dance, not just spin. I made this one for my granddaughter Charlie, just because. There’s something special about making something for someone you love without any occasion — just because you thought of them. ![]()
Both of these are not Rolife kits, but they’ve brought so much joy to the people I made them for. There’s something deeply satisfying about that. ![]()
