Fairyland DIY build day 4

DIY builds always need to zoom forward once you finish all the individual pieces and decorations and start on the structure and Fairyland is no different.

Before we get to the photos…I have planned a change.

This model rises up out of the pond, and the support structure has paper glued to it with rocks on them, plus a small bag if rocks for 1 small rockery feature. I washed the rocks and let them dry and they look like…well rocks. Plain, boring, brown rocks. ugly…not even interesting textures let alone variations in colour.

The printed paper:

The bag of washed rocks:

See…ugly and bland.

So I visited Bunnings (hardware and landscaping warehouse) and checked out what I could replace them with. I didn’t want perfect round polished rocks, I wanted someone a little more natural looking. I was about to give up as nothing jumped out at me when I came across a 10kg bag of pink marble. 8 to 13mm stones, semi polished but still natural enough looking.

So I will be building the rock feature using these instead AND I will be building these up around the support structure so that the models won’t just rise above the pond on pictures of rocks, it will actually be a real rock pillar holding it up. There will be plenty left over so I am guessing there will be a lot of risk customisation in future builds.

Anyway back to today’s progress.

Living room

Roof and lighting installation

The plumbers have been and the bathroom has been installed…no doors…a loo with a view.

1st floor roof and upstairs floor installed

Bedroom complete and ready for upper floor roof to start tomorrow.

Still plenty left to do.

I hope you are enjoying following my progress.

@chamelionboy you would never think of having so many choices with rock color and variations lol. And a fresh air bathroom is … well different. No need for room spray I guess lol

Wow it’s looking beautiful. The living room is giving subtle fairy vibes. Also, the rocks you’ve gotten having a pinkish shade makes it perfect for the fairy theme :sparkles:

Those stones are lovely. Great spotting! And I would have felt the same way about the rocks provided.

I did think that the colour would suit that aspect of it.

Yeah…they were pretty bland

Finding the right size was hardest. Either too small or too big…but this bag seems perfect.

Wow, Fairyland is really coming together now! I love your idea of replacing the plain rocks with the pink marble stones, they’ll make the pond and support structure look so much more natural and unique. And haha, “a loo with a view” definitely made me laugh! :joy::heart: The rooms and lighting are looking beautiful, and I’m really enjoying following your progress!
