[DIY & Creativity] New Rolife Kit - Beverly’s Icecream Van

Opening the box of this new kit, the smell of wood and anticipation filled my nostrils.

I’ve had this kit for several days now and I’ve been itching to build it. Now that it has been released, I spent the day with memories of my childhood, marvelling at each new inclusion that Robotime has included.

The build starts with the front of the van, with the first item installed being the gear stick.
I absolutely love the attention to detail in this build when many of the items in the van will not be seen.
How cute are the foot pedals? And the dashboard?

The box states that it should take three hours. That’s for someone who doesn’t paint edges on everything.

It is three star difficulty.
Wax and sandpaper are your friends in this build, so make sure that you have some in hand.

Putting everything in the back of the van is next up.
It is so cute and well thought through. I loved all the little details.
Extra care needs to be taken with the plastic in the ice cream display. It caused a couple of cuss words!
The instructions are easy to follow. And there is help there for putting in the awning. Unfortunately, when I scanned the QR code, it didn’t work for me but the instructions are very straight forward anyway. It was probably the most complicated part of the build.

There is a tool provided to help put in the gold brads throughout the build. As usual sandpaper and double sided tape are also provided.
I used very little glue with everything going together really well.
It is USB-C rather than battery. It was ok for me to check it out because I have a port nearby where I recharge my phone but it is impractical for me. I would have much preferred batteries but obviously that is personal preference.

Overall, this is such a great little build.
I got so involved in doing it that I stayed up late and completely lost track of time.
This is a fun and uncomplicated build. But be careful of the side mirrors, they break easy!! Found that out the hard way :face_savoring_food::face_savoring_food:
Pros

  • It brings back great memories
  • It goes together really well and requires very little glue
  • Tools are provided
  • The instructions are clear and easy to follow
  • The attention to detail is fantastic
    Cons
  • There is no option for batteries (personal preference)
  • The QR code didn’t work for me
Overall, this is a fun build and looks cute.

You did a fantastic job building it. I really appreciate how you painted the edges of the pieces. It made the build seem more cohesive. I could never have the patience. I usually just sand off the little nubs left by popping it out of the wooden sheet and call it a day.

What a great memory for you Jo. I can remember hearing the music play in summer and running to get my mother so she could pay for ice creams. Then we would run out into the street and wait.

That is so cool!!! Happy that you already have it.
