My wife insisted that I unplug during last week’s cruise, so I used some of my relaxation time to build a couple of ROKR Christmas Gravity Swings in one of the ship’s public areas. Apparently, “unplugged” does not mean I have to stop building!
I can only take the heat for so long, so this gave me a perfect indoor activity between ports. Building in public also led to some wonderful conversations with curious passersby who stopped to watch, ask questions, and learn more about Robotime.
If any new community members are here because we met on the ship, it was great talking with you. Welcome to the addiction!
Santa’s Sleigh and Santa on Skis are both fairly simple builds, and they went together quickly. I traveled with an extremely limited toolkit: one tube of B7000 for emergencies and to reinforce any loose tabs before the trip home, plus a small pair of scissors that I only used to open the boxes.
I did not even bring my edge markers, so these may be two of the very few models I have completed without coloring the exposed edges. That took more restraint than unplugging for the cruise!
Both Gravity Swings came out very cute and made it home safely. They will be added to the auction at my November charity build event, where I hope they will help raise some money for a wonderful cause.
If anyone in the Central Florida area would like to attend my in-person event on November 8, please send me a private message and I will share the details. I will be attempting to guide up to 50 new builders through their first kit, so having a few experienced builders there to lend a hand would be greatly appreciated!
A cruise, two completed ROKR builds, several new friends, and two more items for the charity auction. I would call that time well spent!
It helps that I drove to the port, I placed them gently in my Rolife crafttime bag and kept them on my person until they were stored safely in my vehicle.
@GWVan60 That’s amazing! Crafting on a cruise and introducing our hobby and lifestyle to others is a great way to spread the word! No Edge painting would drive me nuts!! Good restrain on your end lol,
I would definitely call it time well spent! and relaxation! Very nice!
I will be in the Punta Gorda, Ft Myers area but will be end of October most likely. Unsure what you consider Central FL but if any dates change, I will let you know!
Haha, I love that “unplugged” apparently still includes miniature building! Building two ROKR Christmas Gravity Swings on a cruise is such a fun story, and I love that it even brought curious people over and introduced them to Robotime. The fact that they’re now heading to a charity auction makes the trip even more meaningful. What a fantastic way to spend your relaxation time!
