Cake is baked 🎂 Clay project

My friend and I couldn’t meet this week, but I couldn’t wait to finish my miniature cake :birthday_cake:

I painted it with acrylic markers in two layers. By the way, they’re inexpensive markers from Temu, and they actually work really well (some colors apply a bit patchy, but the rest are amazing). The set includes 48 colors in total.

At first, I chose a very bright and dark blue shade that I didn’t really like. I fixed it with a lighter marker that applied semi-transparently. I actually like that the blue part ended up with a texture that looks like a real cake.

After that, I glued on some small plastic bows that I had painted red beforehand. They were actually sold as nail art decorations. But they fit my craft piece perfectly.

As a final step, I coated the cake with a special water-based glossy varnish for clay. But oh my God, it smells so baaad  I had to tolerate it for a bit, but I’m really happy with the result.

I hope my friend Sofia finds some free time to finish her dragon. I’ll definitely share the finished project with you!

This is so beautiful! I actually like the color. And yess, that marker is the same marker that I am seeing in here. So I ordered that same kind as well. Hehe

Thank you so much! It’s hard to believe that it all started with a ball of aluminum foil haha! I’m glad you liked the final result as much as I did

Yes they are!! As you may have noticed, lately I’ve been obsessed with cakes. I draw them, sculpt them, and even collect them. In the background you can see my dessert-shaped candles and a jar with a cupcake lid (my boyfriend gave it to me yesterday).

When I decided to paint it blue, I was worried it wouldn’t turn out nice. Pink would have been a 100% safe choice, but blue felt more risky. I’m really glad you like the color palette I chose in the end! I absolutely love the combination of blue with cream and red.

I think it’s much bigger than Nanci. I’d love to get a cake in real life that’s my size!:two_hearts:

That’s true, it does make the piece look cooler. But it’s a shame it’s not as glossy as I’d like. It still creates a bit of a haze and doesn’t fully reflect the light.

Yes, I used air-dry clay. There’s a lot more of it in a pack compared to polymer clay. And it’s pretty cheap too, hehe.
