DIY clay project 🎂🐲 (not ROBOTIME)

My friend and I had a tough week. A lot of emotional weight fell on us and tried to crush us. But we found a way out.

Sofia suggested making something out of clay and I could not say no to her. We love working on projects like this together, talking about random things and lifting each other’s spirits. Another bonus of these get togethers is that we can drink an unlimited amount of tea :teapot:

Process:

  1. First, we came up with concepts for our figures. Sofia wanted to make a dragon shaped incense holder, and I chose a bento cake.
  2. We made a base out of foil and then covered it with a thin layer of clay. This helps us avoid using too much clay and allows it to dry completely within a few days. Our clay is water based.
  3. Then we started adding small details and smoothing out rough areas using water and brushes.

At our next meeting we plan to start sanding and painting our figures.

I have already chosen a color palette for the cake. I wonder if you can guess it. :artist_palette:

Great job. A problem shared, is a problem halved!

I’ll be honest. That dragon looks like a lizard. Hehe atleast. But the cake is cute

I’m very afraid of clay because I’m not skillful. I can’t mold anything.

Oh, nice! Thanks a lot for sharing this process as well as your combined effort. Whichever reason was throwing that emotional weight at you two, I truly hope you can overcome it. Few things have no solution in life, so let’s go on!

You did a great job with clay here. Be proud! I’ve never worked with clay since primary school, and I don’t remember being particularly good at it. But it was fun! You’ve just awaken so nice memories from my childhood lol

Nice work with the clay. I used to do art with clay as well, had a lot of fun.

That’s true! It’s always easier to solve a problem when there’s a close person by your side.

Perhaps because of the flattened body. It was intentionally made that way so the ash from the sticks would fall onto it and not scatter. The main thing is that the dragon’s owner likes it and that it lasts a long time. :hugs:

Personally, I’m not afraid of clay, but I don’t know how to sculpt complex shapes out of polymer clay (the kind you bake in the oven), and it often gets overbaked, turning black around the edges haha. I don’t know what my problem is

But the clay I use to sculpt the cake is water-based and air-drying; it’s easy to adjust as long as it hasn’t fully hardened yet.

If you only knew what tools we use to create texture. Everything I found at home was orange sticks for manicures, thick yarn needles, and watercolor brushes. A modest but effective set.

Thank you! I learned how to sculpt with modeling clay at a children’s art school, but back then my figures looked much more comical. We mostly sculpted people. It’s nice to know that my post brought back childhood memories for you

Thank you so much!

Great job so far… I am going to say pink and purple or lavender for the cake.

Do you agree that sometimes it’s nice to get your hands “dirty” to achieve a satisfying result afterward? It’s really a fun activity. It develops motor skills and teaches carefulness.:sparkles:

Thank you! Close, but not quite right. I really love the color pink, but I see this cake in a slightly different palette. Here’s a hint: the strawberry will definitely be bright red. :strawberry:

Looks great! I do a lot of clay work ask well

I imagined them but didn’t know how to shape them. I could only press them onto pre-made molds to create the shapes.

That’s great to hear

You both made wonderful figures using the clay. You’re amazing especially the strawberries. I’m guessing a pastel color palette for the cake, the typical white icing strawberry shortcake.

I’m sorry to hear you had a bad week, but at least you found a way to destress, the strawberries on top of the cake are adorbale but the incense holder looks more like a crocodile than a dragon sorry :sob:
