While I’m putting the finishing touches (and apparently cleaning up ) on my customized café, I thought I’d share a little project that’s been with me for over a decade…
I brought home this Hanok music box miniature kit from Nami Island a little over ten years ago.
This was unlike any other souvenir I was used to buying—I had to build the wooden Hanok house myself, then fit the music box mechanism inside. At the time, I simply thought it looked beautiful and enjoyed putting it together.
Looking back, I realize my love for miniatures was already there. I had always been drawn to dollhouses and tiny details, but I hadn’t quite recognized just how much I loved creating them. Building this little Hanok felt different from assembling just another souvenir, even if I couldn’t explain why back then.
If I’d known where that interest would eventually lead, I probably would have spent the rest of my trip hunting down every miniature kit I could find.
More than a decade later, it still plays its melody every time I wind it up. It’s one of those keepsakes that has aged beautifully—not because it’s rare or expensive, but because it quietly reminds me that some passions have been with us long before we realize they’re part of who we are.
Thank you @Grey74 and @Nita_Davis … I couldn’t find this on the display shelf so I thought someone threw it as it was old. Good thing my son told me he had it with him as he planned on fixing the door that fell off… well, he handed it back to me, the door was still off
