👍 [Beginner Tips] Some Tips for Building Kiki’s Magic Emporium – Old Kit Style!

Today I had some time to build a little — step by step, I’m making progress!

I’m still working on Kiki’s Magic Emporium (it’s going to take a while, I know!), and today I wanted to pause for a moment to share a few tips while working on one of its lovely furniture pieces.

This particular cabinet uses wire handles for the drawers, just like in the older kits (the newer ones now include small round knobs that fit into a hole on the drawer front). Since some people might not be used to this kind of build, here’s what has worked best for me:

:light_bulb: The kit includes a small round piece meant to help you shape the wire handles. However, I find it much easier to use pliers like these — they help round the wire neatly and flatten the part that will be glued to the drawer.

:light_bulb: Another useful tip to stay organized — it may sound obvious, but I promise I’ve seen people skip this and lose pieces! Not all furniture parts in this kit are numbered, so you need to look at the parts guide to find them. I always group and arrange the pieces in the same order as shown in the guide. It saves time and prevents mix-ups later on (unless my cat Alvin walks over them first, as he sometimes does!). When some pieces are very similar in size, even a small mistake in gluing can make the furniture look uneven or prevent it from fitting together properly — so patience is key!

And here’s the result so far: the main structure is finished! I’ll be adding the interior details later on, but I already know this one will have some plants growing out of it.

I hope these little tips are helpful to anyone building one of these older kits!

You have done a great job with those wires to have the handles. I find it very difficult. Well done. :+1::clap:

Thank you so much, @Tricia12! It took some patience, but I actually enjoyed working on these kits. They’re far from perfect, I know that, but I’m not aiming for perfection. I’m just happy you liked how they turned out!

Curious to see the part they send to help with the bending of wires. Do you have a picture

Also, I just realized I didn’t even take a photo of all the materials organized. Guess today’s just not a photo day! :joy: :joy:

Thank you for the tips @Wenbare
I think you also forgot to post picture of your main structure

Thank you @Jill_Francisco. No no, the result is the first picture I uploaded — the one with Alvin in it, hehe.

Oh wow! I don’t think my patience level is high enough for one of these…LOL! Yours will be lovely!

I like it because it keeps me 100% focused. When the kits are more “click-together,” I just go click click quickly and finish fast without much challenge. But these ones really make me concentrate. Otherwise, the pieces end up crooked, the furniture looks off, or I glue my fingers together :joy:

I noticed in my Christmas booknook they included some wooden tools too! It really helped and I keep those for future. Good tip!~

Yes! These tools are really useful

Thank you. Looks like a helpfull tool. The d9 in the picture looks different from the one you are holding. More of a flat top. Were there more helping parts?

Little by little, handle by handle  great work @Wenbare  its slow going but its going to be amazing when its completed!

Hmmmm, it’s actually the same D9 piece — the one I’m holding and the one in the instructions
No, I took a quick look and didn’t see any other tools.

Thank you @Nectarines! I also think it’s going to look amazing, but I’ll be taking my sweet time with it :see_no_evil_monkey:

Its worth it to get everything nice  plus, i like stretching out the fun a bit! Sometimes im sad when i finish a build to quickly!

Exactly! I feel the same. It’s nice to take it slow and enjoy every step. When a build ends too fast, I always miss the process!
