Small Scale, Big Effort

There are a wide variety of miniature scales. Generally, the scales we purchase from well-known brands are 1:16 or 1:18, but often we also encounter 1:24 scale miniatures, or we might work with 1:24 scales ourselves. Personally, I’m not very comfortable working with 1:24 or 1:28 scale because they’re quite small and make the process and construction challenging. That’s why I appreciate the scales of Rolife products; they’re easier to work with and visually more appealing. Yes, creating small miniatures can be inspiring and clearly shows the effort put into them, but in terms of both visual appeal and ease of construction, I prefer 1:16 and 1:18 scales. What are your thoughts on this? Which miniature scale do you enjoy working with the most?

The house you see in the photos is a miniature at a 1:28 scale. Yes, it took quite a lot of time to build because it was so small. In the end, it resulted in a very beautiful visual, but it was indeed very labor-intensive.

I’ve made some of the super small ones in the past. I’ve made a few of the small houses that went in a glass ball and frankly I really enjoyed them but they’re definitely challenging. :pink_heart:

I still prefer the 1:16 and 1:18 ratios because of their visual clarity. 1:24 is also okay, but 1:28 is too small. I can’t do well when they’re too small; I’ve experienced it before, and it’s terrible.

The house looks amazing but I can’t imagine myself building one. Everything is so tiny.

You did a great job on this house.

You did a great job @Levomini, it looks amazing. This size is definitely challenging!
I’ve done about 6 of these tiny kits but I always need to do a bigger kit after. I enjoy the Rolife sizes but I recently bought a 1:12 scale dollhouse as I wanted to create with more detail. So what kit is next for you?

I prefer to work on larger things since I have bad eyes. That is a beautiful kit! It’s really worth it even though it took a lot of time to build. :pink_heart:

Such an interesting topic! I totally get what you mean. 1:24 or 1:28 can be really challenging because everything is so tiny and delicate. I also tend to enjoy 1:16 and 1:18 scales more for the same reasons: they’re easier to handle and still look amazing once finished. That said, your 1:28 build looks absolutely beautiful. You can really see all the effort and patience that went into it!

I haven’t made any miniatures yet, I prefer mechanical models (Rokr). The house in the photo looks small. I can imagine that such small details are very difficult to create.
