Relax and Create

A Quick Getaway to Hilo, Hawaii… But My Miniature Kit Had to Come Too! :hibiscus::desert_island:

Sometimes, you just need to get away.

No elaborate itinerary. No long vacation. Just a quick weekend getaway to Hilo, Hawaii—to breathe, slow down, enjoy a change of scenery, and let your mind take a little break from the usual routine.

But if you know me, you already know there was one thing I could not leave behind.

A miniature kit. :joy:

Yes… even on a short trip, I somehow find a way to squeeze one into my luggage!

Because apparently, going on vacation doesn’t mean taking a vacation from building miniatures.

This time, I knew I wouldn’t have enough time for one of my bigger, more complicated kits. So I went through my stash looking for something that was small, simple, and quick enough to finish during a short getaway.

I finally found one.

Toss it in the luggage.

Done. :check_mark:

Of course, there were clothes, toiletries, chargers, and all the other necessities—but somewhere in that suitcase was my little miniature project, quietly waiting for its turn.

And honestly?

I love that.

There’s something special about bringing a hobby with you when you travel. Building miniatures has become more than just assembling tiny pieces for me. It’s my little form of relaxation. My quiet time. A chance to sit down, focus on something with my hands, and forget about everything else for a while.

So while Hilo offers beautiful scenery, good food, ocean views, and that unmistakable island feeling, I also have my own little world waiting inside a tiny box.

:hibiscus: A little vacation within a vacation.

Maybe that’s what I enjoy most about this hobby.

You don’t always need hours and hours to build. Sometimes, even 30 minutes with a miniature kit is enough to reset your mind.

You can build at home.

You can build after work.

You can build on a rainy afternoon.

And apparently…

You can build on vacation, too. :joy:

For me, traveling isn’t just about the places I visit. It’s also about the little things that make the trip feel like me.

And these days, one of those things happens to be tiny furniture, miniature rooms, little details, and a whole lot of tiny pieces that somehow end up scattered across the table.

So here’s to a quick weekend in Hilo—beautiful surroundings, a little rest and relaxation, and of course…

a miniature kit tucked somewhere in my luggage.

Because when you love building miniatures, you don’t leave the hobby at home. You bring a little piece of it wherever you go.

And honestly, that’s perfectly fine with me.

:hibiscus::airplane::desert_island: Travel. Build. Relax. Repeat.

Yes definitely! That’s the beauty of this craft. You can bring them anywhere.

Thanks @Jill_Francisco Hilo is such a beautiful place especially if you love nature. I was able to visit Kilauea Volcano again but unfortunately there is no activity today.

I love everything that you said and I couldn’t agree more. Mostly, I spend at least 1 hr. after my exhausting work just to make time building miniature kits.

Thank you! I am lucky enough to visit other islands here in Hawaii such as Maui and Kauai too

Yes Hilo is such a nice place. If you love nature, you definitely will love it here. It’s a good way to relax and enjoy nature. There is also the other side of this island which is the Kona side.

Thank you! This is the reason why I buy small kits too so I can keep my hands busy when needed
