👍 [Quality Post] Don’t panic! How to fix or replace a broken piece in your kit

I’ve seen more than once that people ask what to do when a piece gets broken or damaged. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, maybe a part breaks or arrives defective. So… what to do in these cases?

First of all: Don’t panic. There’s almost always a solution, and it’s usually easier than you think.

What to do if a piece breaks?
You have several options:

  1. If it’s one of the spare parts included, use it without a second thought. Spare parts are there for a reason, so don’t hesitate to use them when needed.

  2. Repair it with glue, trying to make it look as close to the original as possible. This works well if only a small part has broken off and the piece will later be hidden — for example, behind another object or against a wall. If the break is still visible after repairing, you can try to disguise it with something that covers it.

  3. And if it’s an irreplaceable piece that can’t be repaired? Luckily, there’s still a solution. Robotime has a Part Replacement Service you can use if you can’t find another fix. Simply fill out the form at that link to request a replacement part.

Even the most experienced builders can end up with a damaged, broken, or factory defective piece, and that’s okay. In the end, everything can be solved, and your kit will still turn out beautifully :flexed_biceps:t2:  .

And now, my own and recent experience:

Recently, I messed up a bit with a large piece that didn’t have a spare. I’m not even sure how it happened, but it ended up damaged, and I repaired it as best I could. I’ll share a photo of how it looks now so you can see what gave me that momentary panic, along with a couple of close-ups showing the damage.

I don’t have any photos from the moment I noticed it because all I could think about was fixing it as well and as quickly as possible :smiling_face_with_tear:. What do you think, did my fix turn out okay?

You’ve written the tips really well, thanks for sharing! I always glue the broken part because I don’t feel like repainting it  usually you can barely see it. You’ve made it beautiful too, and it’s not visible from the outside

Thank you so much! I hope these tips can be helpful :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:. I usually glue pieces back so it looks like nothing happened, but this time, since it was a big piece right at the front, I honestly had a little mini panic attack. Luckily, as you said, if even you are looking closely on purpose and can’t notice it, then I feel much more at ease! :squinting_face_with_tongue:

Thank you, Lisa! I will try.

In fact, it’s normal to get nervous when you break or damage a piece, but it can get worse if you don’t stay calm (speaking from bad experience :face_with_crossed_out_eyes:)
