So after different 2 pen engravers with sanding bits died after only 2 weeks of use each, I have come to the conclusion that their little motors just cannot handle the level of use…plus they are the usual cheap crap.
Both have been refunded and I ordered a new tool 3 days ago which arrived yesterday. This one is a USB chargable mini rotary tool which, besides the normal rotary sanding bits, it also comes with engraving bits that can be used for sanding in those tight places. Standard rotary bits that you buy from the hardware store also fit it, so it wont be a problem if I wear out the sanding bits, so I can use all the bits from my big rotary tool that I have in the shed.
I started with just using it with the normal sanding drum tip fitted (see 1nd photo), and on low speed. It takes a fraction of a second to sand the spurs away so it is faster than the pen engravers and needs a light touch.
I wanted more time and control for each bit of sanding, so I switched to to a metal cylinder bur which has a much gentler sanding grade than the 1st sanding drum. This is definately much better.
It is slighly larger in the handle, but still comfortably small, plus it has a built in light to help illuminate what you are sanding. So far so good, I do like this one.
Lets see if it lasts.
