Yeh, we are all different Sasa. That’s what makes this community so great. I actually really love that I’ve enhanced the wood grain with the markers and given it a deeper tone. I love the look of wood.

I had to do a bit of sanding and waxing Jill to get some pieces into the slots. I’ve actually woken up with a sore arm this morning ha ha

Thankyou my lovely friend. I chose muted tones of his work to complement the wood grain, although I do live his brighter works.

Thanks Dave. I used furniture markers. I originally started with maple but it ran dry so I changed to a mix of cherry and bamboo. I like that the markers didn’t obscure the etchings in the wood.

I think just applying varnish or lacquer is a great idea. I applied a gloss varnish to all of my paper parts.

I’m known in my family as the Temu Queen. Each year at Christmas we have a secret gift game and all the gifts are Temu. My teenage grandkids think it’s hysterical.

@Suzanne_Jones the extra time spent customizing really paid off—the changing marker tones give the wood beautiful depth and make the tray unmistakably yours. Four drawers, side holders, and board storage make this one of those satisfying builds that will keep earning its place on the desk.
