DIY Creations From a lovely ROKRer Nita Englemann Davis

Steampunk Robot
As for Orpheus, I instantly felt he had to be silver or gold — it just made sense for a robot. To add some warmth and contrast, I brought in a few autumn tones, which blended beautifully with the gold and gave him a unique seasonal charm.

Motorcycle
This was my second Cruiser motorcycle that I had done. The first I made for a dear friend. I loved the build so much that I had to do another. Being from the great state of Texas, I needed this one to be red, white and blue.

Copper Patina Steam Engine
For the steam engine, I was truly inspired by an incredible version painted by Doug Mann from our group. His finish was absolutely flawless — exactly how I would’ve envisioned mine. But rather than replicate his masterpiece, I chose to take a different path and give mine a more aged, vintage look.

I used crackle medium to add that timeworn texture, making certain areas look beautifully weathered. For the brass parts, I added a patina effect by lightly dabbing on hints of turquoise and orange. And of course, I couldn’t resist giving it a bit of realistic grime — a custom “mud” mix made with a touch of cornstarch blended into my paints.

Wow, the Copper Patina Steam Engine is stunning!

The crackle texture adds just the right amount of age, it feels like this piece has a real history behind it. Also, the whole thing has such a strong countryside vibe!

Even the bunnies are lining up for this masterpiece now! I swear I can hear them going ‘Move over, let me admire this too!’ Seriously though, I’m SO jealous of your genius DIY brain - my creativity level is currently stuck at ‘gluing my fingers together by accident’ while you’re out here building entire wonderlands! Teach me your ways, oh mighty craft wizard!

Thank you very much @sarah . This one took a bit of time and works perfectly.

LOL! Thank you, cheomu. I’ve always been quite crafty. From designing and making bulletin boards in grade school to sewing Halloween costumes for my boys and now these puzzles are my newest way to have fun at it.
