Which Rolife DG series are the easiest or when did they get easier?

I did two of the early DG kits a few years ago (eg. DG106) and found them a bit fiddly and a bit stressful because things didn’t always fit right together. Then yesterday I tried the gingerbread house (DG176) and it was so much easier - I enjoyed it so much! So I thought the more recent ones must be improved/easier - so I bought DG161 today (baking house) but it is tricky like the old ones (had to actually carve into the base board to get the walls to fit into it - very stressfulText). So my question is - when did they start getting better? Dg165? Dg170? Or are certain ones easier like DG176? Anyway help would be appreciated - please don’t have a go at me for liking the easier ones.

Welcome @sledgehannah
This is what I have read. The older versions on the outside cover, the name of the kit is more in cursive and swirly. The newer version is written in block like lettering. I posted pictures in another post. I will try to look and add here

All the newer Rolife kits have a star level on the back of the box that tells you how hard a kit is, with 1 star being easy, and more starts being harder. There are also easy and harder kit levels within the newer kits.

Looking at the star level is the best indicator of how easy a kit will be!

thank you but that doesn’t seem to correlate to what I see online - DG106 has blocky letters.

There are kits that’s have been remade and have an old version and an easier new version. But DG 106 isn’t one of them, that I know of lol.. that’s locusts sitting room correct?

If you like easier ones, try the 3d wooden puzzle or the Super creator miniature. I let my husband do the hard ones.

I agree with you @jeanneL > You can only rely on that because if you purchase a kit that has been sitting in warehouse for a while and it ends up in a craft store later on, that means you are getting the older (harder) version. The gingerbread house is VERY new. Therefore, very easy…just my opinion. The Rolife Snowy Christmas house was fairly easy to me… @sledgehannah Welcome to the group. I hope you can find the answers you are looking for.

thank you everyone. I went to my local store here in Australia (spotlight) and looked at the star ratings for difficulty. The greenhouse DG106 that i did a few years ago is marked 4/5 stars, which matches my experience. The gingerbread bakery DG176 is marked 3/5 stars. But the kit that I’m doing now DG161 baking house is marked as the easiest of them all - 2/5 stars. I think the reason I am finding it difficult is that the pieces weren’t cut right in manufacturing - the walls don’t fit into the base board slots so we had to carve into the base board to make the holes big enough. It’s very disappointing to have realised that even if it’s marked as easy, the manufacturing might be sub par and therefore make it quite stressful. I feel like giving up on the DG series and maybe trying the creator series that stack.

Hello!! Welcome to the Community!
Great question! I agree with @jeanneL, with Emilys Flower Shop i accidently started the older version which was a bit harder. Heres the difference between packaging:
Old one

New one

As @Atropex said, the star leveling system is definitely going to help you a ton on how hard the build will be.

Some build show there material list as well, so if you know what you work well with then this will help you as well.

A few level ones that are nice to start with are:
Miniture House:
Fancy Tea Yard DS038 (im doing this one!)
In the DG series:
Honey Dessert Talk DG168
Beckas Baking House DG161
You can look at all the materials here and difficulties here!

I’m doing DG161 baking house now and it was manufactured badly so doesn’t fit together properly. And it’s the newer version judging by the cover. Very disappointing.

I have to say that I’ve never seen anyone with this issue before and I’ve seen many build this with success. Sorry that you are struggling @sledgehannah

Welcome to the community @sledgehannah . When i first started it started with an easier build and slowly progress. Some times the kits makes me frustrated i woul leave it and comes back. When i did my first mini house, i have to glue everything and pretty much making things from scratch because they are older kits. But at the end its worth it.

New series or versions of Robotime/Rolife are easier. You can search on website of Robotime to know new kit. In my option, I like old version.

It looks like you’ve already received a lot of tips. On the official website, you can search by difficulty level. Hopefully, you can find a nice build. Good luck!

Hi there, welcome :slightly_smiling_face:
Im also in Australia and buy my kits from spotlight sometimes. What part of Aus are you from?

I havent built the bakery kit you are refering too but if there was an issue, take some photos and you can contact rolife and they will send you replacement parts if the pieces arent fitting properly. Sometimes this can happen and there can be a mistake, but Robotime are really good at fixing it.

The newer kits are usually in new packaging which is how I have been able to tell the difference. The old package has colour pictures on brown box and the new ones have gold pictures.

I think the super cretaor might be enjoyable for you for sure, but if you enjoyed the gingerbread house then you might like the fairytale tree house, the dreamy garden house or catherines living room just off the top of my head.

If you are ever unsure about a kit, feel free to send me a message and I can try and help you work out what type of kit it is before buying

Welcome to the community, @sledgehannah! I’d recommend starting with the newer kits — they’re more “click-together,” with pre-cut pieces and holes to fit them easily, so they’re not as tricky as the older ones.

If you’re looking for something cute and easy, the Super Creator kits are a great option! They’re made entirely of plastic, but they’re absolutely adorable.
If you prefer wooden kits, the Little & Warm Space Series 3 are small and charming, or the Christmas Fireplace (DS041) has that cozy classic style.

If you take a close look at the boxes, try to find ones that show click-together parts, and check the difficulty stars — though I’d mainly suggest focusing on the newer kits, since they’re much simpler than the older models where you had to cut, glue, and assemble everything without fitting pieces.

I hope this helps you get started!

Thank you so much everyone for your help!
I think what happened is my DG161 is badly manufactured - I think normally it is easy but I happened to get a bad one. I am going to take it to Spotlight today and see if I can get a refund or a replacement. I have started another kit now - DG163 - and it is perfect. Thank you again!
