Vitascope - finished in 1 afternoon

Yesterday I did not only finish my cuckoo clock, but I started (and finished) my Vitascope . I did not customize it this time. I think it has its charm with the blank wood.

I’m totally in love with this kit. It’s not too hard to make, but definitely not the easiest one either. I was glad I could ask my mom to lend me a hand with some parts, because my two hands just weren’t enough .

I also had my doubt with the order of building some pieces. Because I needed to pry between other pieces and I thought it might have been easier to let me build this piece first. There probably is a reason why it has to be build as it is written in the instructions, but it was just a feeling I got when I reached the steps near the end of the manual. :woman_shrugging:

In the end all turned out to be okay, all the pieces fitted exactly where they were meant to be and the wheels are turning smoothly. You can hear and see the result in the video I posted on YouTube. There is a second one there as well, but that is not that clear.

Please keep in mind that I don’t have a phone stand or whatever, so I had to make do with my knee, my phone leaning against it and turning the reels while trying to hold the Vitascope as steady as possible with the other hand. Also for this, I could have used another pair of hands :rofl:.

Feel free to tell me what you think of it.

I remember struggling in a couple of areas on my first one. getting the reels on with the steel shafts protruding out so far was no fun, so I improvised. Great job!

It looks amazing. I get that sometimes keeping the bare wood is just right for the build.

Thank you @Sasa . I think it is the strength and charm of these kits, that it works and that they even made the effort to include a nice film.

The biggest reel took me the longest, since the boards where it had to fit within were very sturdy and did not move that easily. But I managed to get it in the right angle to get one of the steel shafts to get in, and then sliding in the other wasn’t that hard.

I struggled the most with the wooden bars that hold the little doors. And mainly to get them aligned with the hole where they needed to go in. With the smallest doors my mom has helped me, because I was afraid to break the wooden bars by pushing too hard.

In the end I managed to get it all done without any damages

Absolutely, I think the wooden look on this one just adds on the vintage vibe that this kit has.

Sometimes I’m afraid I’m too quick at building. I will run out of kits soon if I keep going like this :sob:

But I assumed this would not take very long. The manual wasn’t that big either.

Thank you @Anje_Leonoza_Mira it’s always a big relief and satisfying feeling when everything just works like it has to
