Unable to fully insert screw (Dream Gift Factory)

We had an issue with a screw becoming stuck part way during insertion while building the Dream Gift Factory (EAB01). On page 33 screw P15 is screwed into part J24, but this has become stuck part way in and is now sticking out. Although the model works with the screw sticking out, we are worried that it will get in the way when fitting the outer wall and we will therefore be unable to complete the model.

The issue appears to be that the screws are so small that it is not possible to put any pressure on them without damaging the head. Any advice on how to free the screw or is there any other possible solution?

Try backing the screw out and waxing the threads. Also, if you are NOT putting pressure on them while screwing them in (with support from behind), you will strip the head of the screw. You will need to apply pressure on the screw head while trying to get it out. Also , it always helps to share a picture of what you are describing. I could then tell you if it will interfere with an outer wall.

Hi, thanks for replying to my post. Unfortunately the screw is completely stuck and we can’t back it out. Will see if i can get a picture and post it later, but it is sticking out by 3-4mm.

Since you are new to the group, do you know how to upload a picture? Some people struggle at first with this.

@aroot Hiii, welcome to our community!!! I have forwarded your question to our customer service team; they should be answering to you soon. Have fun here

Hi there! From what you’ve described, you might want to try using a small wrench to grip the screw when you’re trying to unscrew it. You’re totally right that the screwdriver we provided is a bit too small—that’s probably why you’re having this trouble! Let us know if you need any more tips.

Welcome to community @aroot . I hope everyone will be able to help you.

I managed to upload this picture of the issue, we have wrapped some string around the screw.

I am sorry that you are having this problem. Your screw head appears to have been stripped by NOT applying pressure. It will definitely interfere with your back wall, so I would try to get it out if you can and buy a new screw. I am sorry that I have no other solutions. Once you strip a screw, it’s never good. Maybe pliers with a rubber band Wrapped around the screw for some grip? That’s the only thing I can think of.

That’s a good tip for dealing with hard to turn screws. Thank you. I’ll keep it in mind.

Wax ONLY the threads…do not wax the head of the screw. That will create more problems. @SunnyCee

Thanks. will give that a go. The screw is stuck fast so do not want to apply too much pressure in case it pulls everything apart!

try to support it from the back side using your fingers (or anything) . It needs to come out as it WILL interfere with installing the exterior wall. So sorry you are dealing with this issue.

Helloo @aroot, welcome to the community! I hope the advice you’re getting works for you. I was going to say the same thing, so I really hope you manage to fix it.

I was only agreeing with what you said. I didn’t say anything about wax. Think someone else was talking about wax.

I don’t know why there is confusion so often. I thought it was simple statement. Being consistently misunderstood by some people makes me regret engaging without fail. Perhaps that is the effective intent.

Also, it is not necessary to tag me. I automatically get a notification when you reply. I really don’t like it when people tag me. Half the time it’s someone trying to be unkind.

I like that some platforms allow people to turn off all tagging of themselves.

I’ve responded several times on this post and I did mention wax in one of my suggestions in the beginning. If you reply to me, I am unsure of which comment you are replying to. Therefore, confusion prevails. Sorry for the misunderstanding @SunnyCee

No problem @Nita_Davis

Try rubbing the tresd of the screw over the wax stick ti get wax between then and them turn the screw back it. The wax will reduce friction.

Thanks for the advice that everyone has offered. We tried wrapping a rubber band around the screw to get a better grip and using pliers, but the screw is stuck fast and will not move in either direction. It is not that the threads are stripped, it just will not turn at all.

As the screw has not been fully inserted it does not hold the back cog fully and can come apart when handling the model, but we have run the motor for a while and it seems to hold together while in motion. Does anyone have any other suggestions before we do something drastic like cutting off the head and securing the exposed end with glue or tape?

I understand that the threads are not stripped. It is the head of the screw that is stripped. I think that might be your best option…to cut the screw off so that your outside wall will cover it. If it is serving it’s purpose, then it should be fine. Wishing you the best of luck.
