The Origin Project (TOP) – A Complete Star Workshop Reimagining

I’ve finally finished The Origin Project (TOP):alien:

This started life as the Tonecheer Star Workshop, but rather than build it as intended, I wanted to see if I could completely change its story while keeping the original movement, lighting and mechanisms.

The whimsical workshop has become a secretive retro-futurist research facility dedicated to the extraction, processing and containment of mysterious alien-origin material.

The stars, angels, unicorn transport and colourful fantasy styling have gone. In their place are crystal transport carts, laboratory and security personnel, industrial machinery, hazard markings, new signage and an entirely new TOP identity.

The part I enjoyed most was working out how to give the existing mechanisms a completely different purpose rather than removing them. Everything still moves and lights up as intended — it just tells a very different story now.

This was quite a transformation, and I absolutely loved making it.

What an incredible transformation! I love how you kept the original mechanisms while completely reinventing the story and atmosphere, turning it into something that feels like an entirely different world.

Thanks so much. This one started to write its own story and very much based on an uncle who had (to me as a kid) a very mysterious job in a nuclear project. This is loosely based on 1970s top secret laboratories. I may have a strange imagination!

@Alicesharpe thank you. It’s a big kit isn’t it! Love to see yours when it’s finished. I’ve almost forgotten how bright it was as I build and paint each piece as I go
