I don’t remember the last time I made a kit this DIY!
I’ve already put the walls up and managed to put together a couple of furniture pieces so far — the sushi display, the window display, and a table. But these aren’t the usual pieces where you have notches or guides to help you put everything together. They’re basically flat pieces of wood that you have to position and glue yourself.
So if some of them look a little lopsided…
I tried! I really did my best to get everything as straight as I could.
Then the kit was missing one piece of colored black wood… so, it’s a good thing I still have a lot of excess wood from previous kits which I cut up, stuck together and painted black … It’s also a good thing that it’s black and not any other color.
The one on the left is the piece that came with the kit, and the one on the right is what I cut, stuck together and painted. Not bad, right?
And then there’s the curved display “glass.” That thing was torture. ![]()
That plastic material is so stiff that it kept popping out every time I thought I finally had it in place. Eventually, the paper covering the frame started ripping from all the attempts, so I gave up trying to make it perfect and just colored the damaged part with a brown marker. You can also see the amount of glue I used to keep it in place.
Good enough! Moving on!
Then I got to the sushi.
And… WAAAAH! ![]()
I’ve made three sushi dishes so far: what I think are tamago and kani sushi, plus a little dish of sushi rolls. They may look tiny and cute in the photos but let me tell you… #@&*! ![]()
Cutting out all the little pieces was already a challenge. But gluing them together?!
Let’s just say I’ve spent a considerable amount of time with glue all over my fingers.
This kit is definitely making me work for it, but I have to admit, I’m having fun with the challenge.
And I still have SO much more to make.
Wish me luck!
