We finally finished our Red Camellia in class! ![]()
We’ve been squeezing in little pockets of time whenever our tight schedule allowed it, and after completing the small flower and part of the bigger one last time, today we managed to finish the second flower and attach everything to the stem.
Once it was assembled, the kids suggested painting it with markers. Honestly, I thought markers wouldn’t work well on wood, that they’d need proper paint, but it turned out amazing!
So here’s a little tip: if you have markers in colors similar to the wood or flowers, they work wonderfully for adding details. Maybe they’re not ideal for painting a whole kit from scratch, since they’d run out quickly, but for touches like these, they’re perfect.
The kids divided the tasks themselves:
– Some painted one flower, others focused on the second.
– A few worked on the cardboard pieces like the bee, butterfly, and base wrap.
– Those who aren’t as confident with painting helped assemble the base.
I only had to give a tiny bit of help with the smaller base pieces and fitting the cardboard around the stand, but they truly did almost everything on their own.
And finally… Tada! Here’s the result! ![]()
I think it turned out absolutely beautiful. I’m so proud of their teamwork, the progress they’ve made, and how naturally they organized themselves to get every part done together.
They’re so excited about their flower, they keep coming over to look at it and gently turn it around, even though it’s in a safe spot in the classroom.
They have made a little video of it, so I’ll try to grab a moment to show you. They even took most of the photos themselves!
I can’t wait to build more kits with them, they’re loving it as much as I am. ![]()
