📖 [Rolife Journey] Starting a new project - classic carousel

Now that the cuckoo is finished, I can start a new project. My daughter was allowed to choose and chose the classic carousel (carousels are her absolute favorite) :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I’ve opened the box and see that many of the parts are already painted. I want to repaint it to better match the swing ride I painted earlier. 👍 [ROKR DIY & Creativity] Swing ride done - #26 by Liset I’ll have to sand the pieces before painting them.

Now I’m wondering what the best way to paint this plastic sheet is: sand it first, then apply a primer, and then paint. Does anyone have any tips?

Ahhh you’re undertaking another massive project Liset! :pink_heart: I’m excited to follow your journey again because this will probably end up being another piece I want to steal!

I have absolutely zero clues when it comes to painting so I guess we will have to wait for Nita hahaha. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Haha I think this is going to take some time again indeed  the safe is too small for another build so I think I’ll have to buy a bigger safe  I’ll wait until @Nita_Davis is awake, I think it’s the middle of the night at her place

I still haven’t try to paint plastic sheets. Sorry, I can’t give you an advice. :< But I know you’ve done so many pretty projects before. I know you can do it. :pink_heart:

It’s a nice kit! I’ve built this one in a couple of evenings. It’s also very satisfying to make, and definitely bigger than you would expect. Enjoy the process! Can’t wait to see how you decide to paint it.

You’ll do a great job I’m sure.

Yes. You want to lightly scuff it using like 400g sandpaper or you will see scratches. I did pray a bonding primer on my teacup backdrop banners…but I don’t really think you should need it. I have painted other things without using a primer. You just want to make sure it is dust free after sanding. Maybe wipe it quickly with a bit of rubbing alcohol. I can’t wait to see your colors for this one!

Maybe you could turn some pieces inside out so you don’t have to sand. I find acrylic paint layers over other colors really well.

Oh noooo! :weary_cat:

Yeah Nita would know. I reckon you just need to sand and paint but maybe there’s extra steps. I’ll try and take notes for when I decide to start painting anything like this. :pink_heart:

Thank you @serenebliss_23 :hugs:You gave me some hope again  I tried to paint this material at the melody tree, but it turned out really ugly so I’m a bit afraid to paint it now

I saw this kit at the Robotime store here in the Netherlands, and it’s definitely bigger than I thought. It’ll probably take me a bit longer, since I plan to paint it, but I still need to see if it works.

Thank you @Nita_Davis :hugs: I will try it this way and keep my fingers crossed that it will work  I tried to paint this material on the melody tree, but it turned out really ugly. So I’m a little afraid to try it again.

Thank you for your help :hugs: I’m going to test it on a piece of the sheet first before I actually start painting it
