After a few days off, I’m back with more! No Cuckoo Clock yet, I’m leaving that for next week… Basically because I have a couple of small kits and I don’t like to start something without first finishing what I’ve already started ![]()
So we keep going with the little Sailing Ship. And the straightforward build goes on with the masts and sails already! Really, I’m worried about the amount of fragile parts these small kits contain. And that comes with a sad bang for me this time. Why? Well… I’ve add the first mast and sail, alright.
But you know? The seas are dangerous, so this ship, as small as it can be, is supposed to be able to deffend itself. Not mine, sadly. You’re supposed to put together a couple of cannons that will defend each side of the stern, but the pieces are so tany and fragil that every single one of them broke while trying to put them together. The tiny holes in the body of the canon parts are just too close to the edges of them, and… Yeah, I’ve gotta say it. I was a little frustrated! But hey, nothing I could do from there, so I’ve just decided this will be the Ship of Peace. Problem solved! So I just kept putting those cute little masts together instead.
Not bad, huh? The sails were also interesting to add. Instead of the fabric-ish ones you’d find in the Seahorse Barque, the Sailing Ship is 100% made of wooden parts, so the two main sails are basically wooden foldable parts you’d have to work carefuly with. The result is pretty cool though!
Do you see the same I see? The bow is a bit… Empty, right? And the pointy ends don’t come closer enough to each other?
Problem solved!
Last but not least, the details that make a difference. I had to make the base to hold the ship, and also, so it’ll look like it’s moving (it’s called Sailing Ship, after all), I had to add some parts below the bow and stern areas that kind of emulate the sea waves moving around the hull. Nice touch, huh?
And this is how it looks so far! The building is completely done regarding wooden parts, so the only remaining thing to do is what I like to call “to tie up the boat”. Ropes are coming! But not today.
