Yesterday afternoon, even though I was already feeling quite tired after the whole week (and made a few mistakes along the way
, luckily, all fixable!), I still managed to spend a little time working on the Wooden Blooming Book.
I started with the tulips the other day, but then I couldn’t resist moving on to one of my absolute favorites: the sakura flower. I’ve had my eye on it for a long time, and when I saw it was part of this bouquet, I decided not to buy it separately. But dunno, maybe I do anyway ![]()
.
I totally agree with @Nita_Davis that this is probably one of the most elaborate flowers. Just to begin with, you need to make 26 identical petals (only two, that are the 27 and 28, are different!) and then fit them all together in exactly the same way, five by five, into the flower bases. All except the bottom one, which feels like three flowers combined into one, the rest are built following that same pattern.
As with the tulips, I painted the edges pink and the anthers yellow. I looked up several reference photos of real sakura flowers and decided to paint the inside of the petals a darker pink, like some varieties have. Since I’m using markers instead of paint, the lighter pink of the petals wasn’t showing much on the edges, so I chose to go with a darker pink there as well.
Alvin and Bochi helped me not panic when I realized it wouldn’t turn out exactly as I had imagined
, but honestly, I’m really happy with the final result and I think it will look great together with the rest of the flowers.
Now that it’s finally Saturday, I’m hoping to spend a little time this morning making another flower… we’ll see how it goes!
Thanks so much for reading, and I wish you all a lovely and well-deserved weekend ![]()
