📖 [Rolife Journey] Petal by Petal, Sakura Takes Shape

Yesterday afternoon, even though I was already feeling quite tired after the whole week (and made a few mistakes along the way , luckily, all fixable!), I still managed to spend a little time working on the Wooden Blooming Book.

I started with the tulips the other day, but then I couldn’t resist moving on to one of my absolute favorites: the sakura flower. I’ve had my eye on it for a long time, and when I saw it was part of this bouquet, I decided not to buy it separately. But dunno, maybe I do anyway :see_no_evil_monkey::joy:.

I totally agree with @Nita_Davis that this is probably one of the most elaborate flowers. Just to begin with, you need to make 26 identical petals (only two, that are the 27 and 28, are different!) and then fit them all together in exactly the same way, five by five, into the flower bases. All except the bottom one, which feels like three flowers combined into one, the rest are built following that same pattern.

As with the tulips, I painted the edges pink and the anthers yellow. I looked up several reference photos of real sakura flowers and decided to paint the inside of the petals a darker pink, like some varieties have. Since I’m using markers instead of paint, the lighter pink of the petals wasn’t showing much on the edges, so I chose to go with a darker pink there as well.

Alvin and Bochi helped me not panic when I realized it wouldn’t turn out exactly as I had imagined :see_no_evil_monkey:, but honestly, I’m really happy with the final result and I think it will look great together with the rest of the flowers.

Now that it’s finally Saturday, I’m hoping to spend a little time this morning making another flower… we’ll see how it goes!

Thanks so much for reading, and I wish you all a lovely and well-deserved weekend

I’ve never tried making flower sets before either. The feeling of potentially breaking them just haunts me.

Thank you so much! I’m really happy that in the end, even though it didn’t turn out exactly as I first imagined because of the colors I used, it still became a beautiful flower

You’re welcome. it’s really nice

The flowers turned out really beautiful. I think using dark and light pink was a good choice. It makes the flowers more realistic :star_struck:

Thank you so much!!
Honestly, these flowers turn out gorgeous, both individually and as part of a bouquet. The only thing I’d mention is that you need to be careful when removing the pieces one by one because the wood is very thin, it’s best to use a tool. Also, the petals are quite delicate; they can bend and break easily, so you have to be very careful. The same goes for pressing the pieces together, it’s better to be gentle, because they can snap very easily :face_with_spiral_eyes:

If you make one you will love the result, you will see

I have made bouquets and flowers before and I absolutely love them! Just counting the wooden ones, this would be my fourth bouquet. It’s like any miniature, if you handle it with care, it doesn’t have to break. I really enjoy making them and giving them a personal touch once they’re finished. In fact, I’m already thinking about what I’ll add to this one when it’s done hehe

Thank you so much, @Liset! I’m really glad my research paid off. I honestly thought it was going to turn out horrible when I saw it wasn’t going the way I had imagined… :joy::joy:

I definitely love the darker shade of pink! It adds dimension to it! :pink_heart: :pink_heart:

The petals do look delicate! I’ve never made any of the wooden flowers but they definitely don’t look as easy as they seem.

Yes, they do look easy, but since the wood is very thin and the pieces are small, you have to be careful not to break them. It already happened to me with the kids. I had to help them a lot with the orchids because they’re more complicated than they look. But they’re beautiful :see_no_evil_monkey::see_no_evil_monkey:
