👍 [Rolife DIY & Creativity] Experimenting with Mini Clay Pots – Any Tips? 🪴

Yesterday tried making some mini clay pots using a mold my husband 3D-printed for me, and… let’s just say the results weren’t exactly what I hoped for

I still don’t really like the shape, even after trying to press a little hole in the middle before they dried.

Since I don’t have much experience working with clay, I’d really love some tips or techniques to make them look nicer. I’d love to start adding cute handmade accessories to my builds, but I feel like I need to improve a bit first.

Has anyone made mini pots (or similar small clay items) before? How do you shape them so they look more clean and symmetrical? Any tricks are welcome!!! Thank you all!! :hugs:

so great. it’s a good idea for making clay.

That is an awesome idea. I don’t think I can make this though. you have done it really well.

This is a great idea! I hope you can find something that works well for you. The only thing I’ve ever made from my flower water dough was my mushrooms so I can’t offer any advice. Those did not need to be symmetrical

Thank you!! There are a lot of free molds online, but you have to check the size, for example, and a lot of things like that :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Thank you @Tricia12! I think I have to improve a loooooot :see_no_evil_monkey:

Thank you anyway @Nita_Davis! Yes, I think part of the problem is the simmetry

I am not an expert in any way but I wonder if using a dab of water to help smooth? I would also look around at some craft tools and see if any of those might help? I have these things called quillers. You use to make paper flowers. They have a long narrow edge and then also a round ball like end. I am thinking a smaller one might go in the middle and smooth out. Idk though

Thank you so much for the suggestion! I don’t have many tools yet, so I might look into something like the quilling tools you mentioned. The small round end could really help shape the inside. I really appreciate the tip! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Gracias, @camila_castro :face_blowing_a_kiss:

You have done a perfect job

Thank youuu

When making ceramics they use water to make the sides smooth and that way it doesn’t stick to your fingers. To make a hole i would use u little wooden of plastic skewer and also make it wet so it doesn’t stick to the clay. When it us ready put it in the oven for a short while to harden the clay.

Thank you so much for these tips @Jerry_Boswijk! Using water and a skewer makes a lot of sense — I’ll give it a try next time. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain it!

This is a cool idea! I think i would use a different type od clay personally, i think polymer clay/oven baked clay might be an easier option for this. I love the idea of miniature clay pots though. Have you seen the teeny spinning wheels? I really want one!

My best friend is actually a pottery artist :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: she is making me some miniature pots for me to incorporate into my builds!

For these pots, I used air-dry polymer clay. I bought several colours, and this one seems perfect for little flowerpots. I’ll keep experimenting. I’m sure I’ll get good results if I keep practicing :see_no_evil_monkey:
