📖 [Rokr Journey] Tilt-A-Whirl: Update 5

Painting the cup of this build is a bit of a challenge. Painting straight onto plastic medium is not easy. It usually requires multiple coat.
I was playing around with the colours and I did not like it.
So this a before photo.

So I didn’t like the colour of the last one so I use acetone to clean off the colour. However, it didn’t go too well, the colours that I wanted to keep got rub off as well and it become quite stick because it số harsh for the plastic.
It took me 2 hours to fix the cup. And finally this is the stage I recovered it to.

Because the colour got changed in this one, u then end up change the colour lining for all the cups. So it took longer.

Then once I am happy with the cup, I moved to the next stage and yes, more colouring.

Now get to the stage of installing the cup, I struggled a little because the cup doesn’t spin, and the light strips was coming off slightly and rubbing against the wall so it was making a loud noise.
So then I have to full the top part out and reinstall the light so it fits properly.

Thanks god it’s all working. At first I didn’t know where it went wrong but then I notice the centre need to be fully pressed down for it spin.

Now I can have a rest before I move on to the next stage.

Thanks for reading.

You did an absolutely fantastic job! its amazing work. I want to get this kit. I am assuming you were using an oil based paint? or these are not an ABS plastic.

For painting the plastic pieces, you might want to try Dspiae paint markers. We use them for Gundam models which are all ABS plastic. They have a brush tip and no shaking is needed, just paint like a sharpie marker.

You can also try the Gundam paint markers which have a more milky consistency if that is more to your liking. they are a more traditional shake to mix and have a chisel tip.

Both paints have a good hold on plastic but its often recommended to preclean the surface just in case. Toothpicks are best for cleaning up any overage after the paint has dried. As they are harder than the paint but softer than the plastic.

Finish with a clear coat to protect the paint, glossy, matte, whatever you like.

I have not tried them on any of the Rolife plastics yet, I will have to do a paint test and post it.

Thank you for your suggestions @April_Jones . I used acrylic marker on this build. when I paint on the plastic, It wasn’t giving a clean consistency and even coat so I did like it. I have to try Gundam marker to see how it goes. Please do a trial test on it when you get a chance. I will be looking forward to finding out.

What brand of acrylic markers do you use?
