Every builder has their own little ritual before starting a new kit.
For me, it’s almost always: A cold coffee (or iced latte!) Good lighting My trusty tweezers and glue Some relaxing background music And, if I’m lucky, my kids building beside me.
I’ve learned one thing though… snacks and tiny pieces don’t always mix very well! I don’t want to mistake a miniature cookie for a real one!
Building miniatures isn’t just about finishing a kit. It’s about slowing down, getting comfortable, and enjoying a little escape from the busy day.
Now I’m curious… What’s always on your build table?
Is it coffee, tea, chocolate, chips, or something else? Or do you prefer a completely snack-free workspace?
Let’s see what fuels our tiny building adventures!
@MamaNheza now I’m curious about mistaking a part for snack story lol. I always have my water, my tools and my phone also ( just in case I need it). Also music or a good documentary on that I can not follow but understand. Like background noise for the weird people (me!)
Hahaha, thankfully I haven’t actually mistaken a miniature part for a snack… yet! But with tiny cookies and bread pieces, I sometimes have to do a double take.
I love your setup though! Water, tools, and a documentary or music in the background sounds so cozy. I totally get what you mean about wanting some background noise without needing to pay full attention. It makes the whole building experience feel even more relaxing.
That’s a really good point! Greasy fingers and tiny pieces definitely aren’t the best combination. A glass of water is probably the safest build companion. I usually save the snacks for a little break so I don’t accidentally leave fingerprints where they don’t belong.
My phone is always beside me. I have my pens and my tool box. If I’m home on my own, the pets are usually close by and I have the tv in watching NCIS, CSI, or at the moment I’m rewatching Grimm.
If I have everyone at home, hubby controls the remote and he’s usually beside me lol
That sounds so cozy! I love that your build space changes depending on who’s home. Having your pets nearby and your favorite shows in the background sounds like the perfect way to relax. And I had to smile at the part about your husband taking over the remote. It sounds like you’ve found a routine that works perfectly for both of you.
@MamaNheza For me, it’s my tools beside me, my cat keeping me company and Netflix playing in the background, depending on how complex the kit I’m building. One thing is for sure though, I always end up rewinding the movie or series because I get so absorbed in building that I completely miss what’s happening on screen
Hahaha, I can relate to that! I’ve definitely had moments where I realize I’ve been so focused on the build that I have no idea what happened in the show. Your cat keeping you company sounds like the perfect little build buddy too. It’s funny how miniatures have a way of making the rest of the world disappear for a while.
That sounds like a perfect build setup! Iced coffee, tweezers, glue, and a peaceful, quiet space. I love it! Sometimes silence is exactly what we need to get completely lost in all those tiny details. Happy building!
I like that! Having everything within arm’s reach makes building so much smoother. There’s nothing worse than getting into the flow, then having to stop and hunt for your tweezers or glue. It sounds like you’ve got your build station perfectly organized!
Hahaha, that’s probably the safest plan! Imagine reaching for a chip and picking up a tiny miniature cookie instead… or the other way around! Keeping the snacks on a separate table might save us from some very confusing moments.
