I had a lot of fun building Pink Beauty Secret (DW026), and I ended up making a few small changes to give the shop a more finished, lived-in feel instead of following the layout exactly as designed.
One of the first things I noticed was how empty some of the storage pieces looked, so I added folded ribbon and lace inside the drawers to give them a little more purpose. I also used some of the extra materials as hanging textiles under the wall shelf, which added a nice bit of texture and helped that area feel less flat. I also cut up a small piece of heat shrink tube and tucked it into one of the tiny drawers on the dressing table to simulate hair ties, which turned out stinking cute.
For the shopping bags, I filled and shaped them so they actually look like they’re in use. One bag has the cellophane from the sticker sheet tucked inside, and the other uses a folded piece of paper towel, which gave them slightly different shapes and made them feel more natural. I also left a sheet mask out loose to break up that “everything is perfectly packaged” look. Before gluing everything down, I spent some time moving the chair, counter items, and accessories around until it felt a little more natural and slightly imperfect, like a real shop someone just stepped out of.
I also really loved some of the tiny details in this kit. The face mask packaging actually has a mask inside, which is such a fun touch, and I placed an extra one out on the dressing table to make it feel in use.
Overall, I kept the original design as my base but focused on adding a bit more depth and realism wherever I could.
