Does anyone have any tips on how to efficiently wax them? Waxing the gears is honestly such a headache.
I saw a video where someone building the Marble Spaceport used Vaseline on the gear teeth and candle wax on the flat parts. You can give a try.
I lubricated moving parts with bar soap, it works very well. Greases like Vaseline get dirty quickly and seem to attract dust and dirt.
Totally Agree! I’ve tried silicone spray, which is ‘okay’, but I found myself relubing the parts with soap.
@RobertJohnson Yes, waxing is no fun…and sometimes a mess but it is necessary. I have done over 80 builds and always use the wax provided. Some have used Vaseline, but I would never. It’s greasy and would attract dust, in my opinion. A birthday candle would be my next option IF I ever run out of the wax stash I have.
Yes, it can be a headache and make a mess with the wax provided…BUT I have now finished over 80 models and the only wax I use is the wax provided. I would NEVER use Vaseline because it is so greasy and WILL attract dust because it never dry. If I EVER run out of wax, I will use a candle…Never Vaseline.
When i am building a model that has gears in them of teeth i use a brush and talcum powder to rub onto the teeth. Nu grease stains and sometimes to much wel wil block it from turning. I also always check if the mechanism is still working after adding a part
