Finally It’s time for me to talk about a kit that my love for it may rival that of Dream gift factory (a shocker for me since none came close to it).
I assembled this baby Back in the last week of January and at that time Nita still hasn’t started working on her so liset’s posts about this kit where the only things I could find on the entirety of google regarding this kit, so my main character kicked in because what do you mean I’m one of the few that owns this beauty?? (i’m special I guess) and thus her posts became my refrence.
Actually rokr called it retro dressing case.. And to me it was such a boring name for such a beautiful whimsical build so just roll on with the stupid name that I came up with.
first some introduction photos:
Now let’s get serious (for the first time in my life
) and actually talk about the kit.

When I opened the box and saw the amount of the transparent silicone-y beads and screws provided, worse even springs were in it … I smelled a headache, one that I enjoyed immensely even tho I was smelling colours and seeing scents by the end of this kit, still it was a happy headache filled with joy if I ever had one.
The building process was a mixture of the saxophone getting louder in my head each time I flip a page and a series of “what the hell did I get myself into”, because at the end of it, my fingers were hurting from pushing the silicone beads plus the nails down, my eyes hurt and my back was sour (at the prime age of 24 mind you
) and it took me like 5 days to finish with 4-5 hours of working on it each day, even dream factory didn’t take that long

- Obviously the star of the show, my mermaid, my Minglan (I named her after my favorite c-drama heroine)
Here she is sitting all pretty between her shielding curtains
- The tools that you assemble

whoever came up with this idea you’ll be getting a kiss on the cheek cause they were so helpful

Specially this one while pushing the beads
And you better believe I’m turning it into a family heirloom because that’s how iconic it is to me.
-
The way the case opens, You slide the curtains first which reveals the mermaid and then the lock opens and you get to push the box open, this is just genuis.
-
These 2 panels:
I wish you could see them in person because the way they mimick how ancient Chinese artists used to paintbrush waves is simply mesmerizing and they’re blue so ¯\
/¯ they became some of my favorite pieces of wood ever.
- These details on the surfaces on the box, I’ll just simply let them talk themselves
Just beautiful omg ![]()
![]()
- These parts being metal?? a pleasant surprise
- The fact that its mainly blue is enough for me (i’m a sucker for anything blue except food
)
:۞:••:۞:••:۞:••:۞:••:۞:
Nothing, zero, zlitch nada… I’m biased with this one too!! Tbh the main problems that I faced with this one were mainly my own shortcomings and the difficulties I faced while making it. So no critism thank you.
:۞:••:۞:••:۞:••:۞:••:۞:
Boy do I have a lot!!
- This drawer was a nightmare oh my lord
The beads a nightmare, the nails a nightmare, the springs??? The biggest nightmare of them all
This part was so difficult that I nearly did a back flip when I finished it. I was so happy so ready to start the next step just for me to flip the next page and realize I need to make another drawer for the opposit side… (Just shoot me please)
No bcs rokr why would you do me dirty like this ![]()
?? At least mention that I needed to make two so that I can sufficiently prepare myself mentally (not that I’d understood a word since the booklet was in chinese
)
- And then after I finally finished my horror movies, it was time to install them so I placed them and run to open the drawer to test it, just for it to get stuck…
Which meant I had to redo like half of the base, but it turned out to be a good thing since I forgot 4 pieces when I assembled it ![]()
![]()
And as if that wasn’t enough, when I got to install my little demons in place AGAIN I kept pushing them down and down with pressure and suddenly I hear a “crack”… My heart was immediately in my feet because what the hell did I break now
Just for me to realize “oooh they’re meant to go all the way down”, I nearly wept in relief ![]()
- I deadass looked at this and thought “yeah!! There’s probably no protective cover, let’s just install it as it is”

Then I checked liset’s, and saw that hers was Shiner than mine, so I took off the cover of mine (which thankfully, even the cover was high quality that it tore in one piece leaving no residue), look at her shining brighter than my future now ![]()
Truly my idiocy knows no bounds ![]()
- Getting the screws and nails into their holes turned out to be my nemesis.
No bcs why was it so hard?? Specially with the nails?? I was getting so tired that I just started pushing them into the wood ====> results? : I ruined the pieces ![]()
- These pieces hold the handle of the drawer together and I broke 3 of them
so I was about to cry bcs now my handle is bare and then miraculously I find another spare that I put aside earlier and I almost screamed hallelujah to the lord … (I’m muslim
)
- While dealing with the nails I injured myself

I don’t know if it’s visible from the picture but a piece of wood got into my finger
But luckily a pair of tweezers did the job, so definitely be careful while dealing with the nails ![]()
:۞:••:۞:••:۞:••:۞:••:۞:
I still have a lot to say as usual but I’ll spare you the misery
So in conclusion every challenge that I faced was perfectly worth it because just look at it.
A most magnificent ONE MILLION/TEN
:۞:••:۞:••:۞:••:۞:••:۞:
And if you made it this far through my longest yapping session I’ve written so far, here’s your daily dose of flowers and sunshine
︎:heart:︎
