My thoughts on protective cases
Upside - protective, prevents dust
Downside - makes the build look a bit static and monotonous as if put aside behind a box

I’m not a big fan too 
I mean… I think they are very useful but, as you said, the look changes and we can appreciate it correctly. It maybe because of the reflections on the glass. But for someone with pets, it’s almost necessary XD

They are quite an added cost, for me that is a huge factor. $70 AUD for a kit and then $30 AUD for the protective case it quite an expensive build 
I also do prefer the look without them, i do think they would be handy to keep the dust off and i guess you could stack your builds if they were all in cases too.
So far im not using them.

I like using display cases for protection, but honestly they’re expensive. I actually prefer having them out on display where you can really see the details inside.

I just have mine all displayed on four (3ft X 6ft tall) shelving units. No dust covers.

I agree with the downside part. That’s not who I am. I built them, painted them and loved every minute of doing so…but they are not considered prized possessions as if they were the Hope Diamond…LOL!

I don’t use display cases. I build an cabinet with doors of glass where i put my build in
