If it could be covered and transported, you could bring things pet sitting too!
This happens to me too, just like @Liset. I lay all the boards out on the table in alphabetical order and pick them as I go, which helps a lot. And I don’t have any problem with it.
Even though I have a room for my hobbies, I still need to set everything up and pack it away every time, so I don’t have a permanent setup. That said, anything that reduces searching and helps stay in the flow would be a big improvement ![]()
As a strong visual person, I heavily rely on organizational tools. I could get flustered at times when things are not in proper order. I have this wooden file sorter that my husband used for over 20 years. I’m using it for bigger boards just like the Seahorse Barque boards.
I also use these magazine racks for portability and to access parts that fall off
from the boards.
That really looks very neat and organized
True looking for right pieces and keeping things in an organised and easy to access manner is difficult especially if like me you don’t really have a dedicated area to do your craft work. I just tend to have one box of glues, double sided tape, sand paper, screw drivers, tweezers, Stanley knives and any other knick knacks that help my build. I keep the actually pieces in their original box so it is compact and doesn’t take up too much of my limited space. Some of these ideas are fantastic and I may look at utilising some of these methods. Thanks for great ideas.
I need to book mark this because I am in a middle of getting something 3D printed for me to accommodate my crafting habits.
I need individual pen/brush holders, cup-pen holder that spins and comes off the unit, small drawers from the bottom for small pieces, i want these small drawers to have lids so i can attach my magnet clips, i want board dividers.. among other things
Thank you all for the feedback. I’ll pull everything together and feed it back to the team.
Honestly, this is just an idea for now, and it may not happen anytime soon. There’s still a lot we want to build and improve on the site ![]()
I love having my workspace organized, but I really struggle with coming up with systems for it. So usually all my parts and papers end up lying in a box, and I suffer while trying to find what I need. All the ideas and solutions in this thread are super helpful!
I would be very grateful for that board holder as 50% of my time is looking for a piece that fell out the board or trying to find which board i need X
A very good idea .. to keep everything in place
This is my miniature building desk.
Of course, before everything is taken out, it always looks nice and tidy ![]()
…but about 10 minutes later, that’s a completely different story ![]()
On the desk, I have my toolbox that I mentioned before, along with a few containers and lids to separate all the small parts from different bags.
The most important thing is that any small pieces I’ve already built will stay on the side, waiting to be assembled together at the very end.
On the other side, I mainly use it to store the boards. It’s a pull-out drawer style organizer, kind of like a mini cabinet. Unfortunately, it only has three compartments, but it’s just enough to separate the boards. When I’m not using it, I can simply push it back in, which is super convenient.
I also have a cutting board and a sheet of paper for gluing parts or testing a bit of color. Once I’m done, I can just throw it away and replace it with a new one—easy and stress-free.
I like the look of this organizer, but what concerns me is if a small piece falls out of a board it may or may not fall down into the slot where the board is that it belongs to. If that happens then you don’t know which board it goes to.
I use gallon ziplock bags that I label alphabetically and out the boards in those. That way if a small piece falls out of the board, it stays in the bag and I know which board it goes to. I stand all of these bags up in an organizer and pull out each bag with the board I need at the time.
I use scrapbook organizers that hold all the bags of little parts and the sticker sheets for the kit that I’m working on. It works out fantastic!
Sometimes I wish I have an another big desk only for my build.. Ahhh. My current one is so small, and it’s already occupied by my laptop ![]()
BTW, I really like your posters ![]()
no matter how big my desk is …. It will only stay clean and neat until a project starts ![]()
I bring another little desk to expand working space sometime. See if that works for u
Of course , looking at that give me energy ![]()
