So..i want to start an important discussion! Ive seen lots of Builders here that like to paint their builds and Use acrylic markers for the outside of the wood to match the surroundings..but to thoes people that do that..Why? This isnt meant to be Rude (incase i typed it that way
) personally i love the wood look not being covered up by colour. I would love to know, Whats everyones opinions on it? I do at some point want to paint a kit ![]()
That is just personally preference. I have some of mine with plain wood that’s before I started painting. Once I started painting, i quite like it and do it since and love the personal touch. Plus it’s fun. Some people do prefer just the plain wood which is fine as well.
It’s totally about the vibe of the kit. For example, if the kit is a library that is supposed to have an “old” feel to it like antique looking furniture, I would just stain the edges of the wood.
If it’s a build that is colorful, I will paint all edges and something paint entire pieces.
I feel like painting adds dimension to pieces. Especially a build that has a lot of 2D pieces like flowers or signs, etc., it makes it look more 3D.
I hope I explained that ok.
I believe that it is all personal choice. Sometimes having the raw edges in build seems unfinished to me, so I like to paint the edges.
Also, I like to paint things in my builds to change the colour scheme and personalise it to what I like, or a theme I have in mind.
There really is no right or wrong to how we build, but what we enjoy. I find that when I’m painting, I get in the zone and time flies.
I think this reflects the artistic side of the builder. It’s already beautiful as it is, but some of us enjoy adding a personal touch through our own artwork. Painting isn’t required, of course, yet many love expressing their creativity and imagination in the craft. ![]()
Thanks for being honest
personally i do love the look of the plain wood as i think it makes it look better
Thanks for being honest
ive only built two flowers so far and i love the wooden edges so i never painted them but i guess its a personal preference ![]()
Thanks for being honest! I can agree that it makes time fly
theres time ive went a whole day without eating because i was too focused and never felt hunger lol
Thank you for being honest, i do love being artistic especially since i have a Canvas and a french easel in the corner of my room. I just feel like sometimes kits are alot more gorgeous with its natural look! But regardless everyones painted projects look just as gorgeous ![]()
I’m with you, I like the look of the edges normally! I won’t paint anything unless it’s called for in the instructions. There are a few builds I would like to try painting, like the magic instrument series, and the amusement park rides!
That’s true, whether it is personally customized or built as is, it’s still gorgeous. ![]()
@Alicesharpe I think its personnel preference ive seen some absolutely stunning kits on here that have been painted …..

I’ve never painted a kit myself. It hadn’t occurred to me. When I joined the community, I was amazed that people paint and customize kits. I wouldn’t do it, but I like seeing others do it.
The amusement park rides are the only ones i might paint as i want a colourfull amusement park ![]()
Its fun to see others do it. I just dont think its for me ![]()
I do love the amusement parks that were painting by Liset
I think every kit is gorgeous even if it is a kit i wouldnt buy ![]()

They definetly are ![]()
Just as we are all attracted to different looks and kits and everything else, same with painting. I did not originally paint but then one of the kits, the edges really showed and I did not care for that so painted edges and grew from there.
Sometimes, for me, I think, why didnt they paint that?
