Why did you choose Coffee Factory (EAB02)?

I chose this kit because my husband adores coffee and I wanted to make it for him.

Before you started, what did you expect or worry about?

I was worried about all the gears/mechanical parts! I had only done one other kit that involved a mechanism like that (one of Tonecheer’s airships) and I had a lot of trouble with the mechanical parts.

What surprised you during the crafting process?

Almost all of the geared parts went together very smoothly with almost no problems! Well…aside from the part I nearly gave up on (see below).

Was there any moment that almost made you give up?

No, but there was a moment that made me deeply regret my choices. When I assembled the gear that goes between two strips (it holds the woman sweeping) the whole thing ultimately connects to the lower level where the cups go around in a circle. It does not have you actually test this until you are several steps (and several walls) further. So when I tested it I discovered that there was a strange noise occurring periodically. But everything was moving smoothly and I didn’t see anything catching. And it would have been a lot of work (I thought) to disassemble things and adjust the gears. So I left it.

Oh, what a foolish, foolish choice. I got all the way to the point where the upper level coffee bean section is assembled. This is almost the end of the build. Got everything together. And…it didn’t work any more. Umm.

So apparently that noise really did matter. I had to figure out how to disassemble enough to get to the gears I originally had problems with…which were under the floor. I managed to do it without having to rewire anything and while leaving large pieces of the factory intact, but man it would have been so much easier if I had just fixed it when I first heard the weird noise.

What does this craft really bring you?

Satisfaction and the joy of creating. I am disabled and am less able to do things than once I was. But I can put these kits together and still make marvelous things! I love it so much.

One small tip for future crafters:

As soon as you connect the two floors (basically once the rubber belt is held in place and you’ve attached enough of the structure that everything will stay in place) turn it on and test it. If it isn’t working flawlessly, go back and fix it. It turns out that my gear wasn’t quite aligned between the two tracks, so it was catching when it would get to the end of the track. It wasn’t enough to throw off the bottom mechanism with the cups, but it was enough to completely stop the upper mechanism with the coffee beans. I had to play with the tightness of some of the gears to make it work; it turns out that there are problems if the gears are too tight or too loose. It’s easy to get caught up in making sure they aren’t too tight, but if you give them too much room they can move around and not fit smoothly into the next gear.

    I was surprised that I finished sooner than expected.

    Yes! The gears for the coffee beans kept getting stuck and I had to keep taking it apart.

    Relaxation and a sense of accomplishment.

    Do all of the gear/light/sound tests along the way and test a few times before moving on.

1. Why did you choose Coffee Factory (EAB02)?

I came across The Chocolate Factory a couple of months ago and had such a good time building that one that I immediately looked for more. And I saw the youtube video and I thought oh this was so cute and I loved that you don’t need batteries and that all you need is a usb C cord. The music and movements were what drew me in the most.

2. Before you started, what did you expect or worry about?

I expected it to be similar to the chocolate factory where there will be gears to wax and layered building. I was worried about the complexity of putting a second floor. I was concerned would I understand all the instructions.

3. What surprised you during the crafting process?

How everything just came together. As I followed the instructions step by step, everything just worked. Most of the pieces fitted well with minimal sanding. The windows were the biggest surprise and relief because they are held to the frame with screws rather that glue which I thought was a much better idea.

4. Was there any moment that almost made you give up?

The only part that made me almost give up was putting the first level roof because it was uneven and required shaving off one of the supporting walls in the bottom so that the floor would sit level. Also the rubber belt was making this noise that required some help from y teenage son. He had to adjust the piece that was rubbing against the belt.

5. What does this craft really bring you?

It brought me joy, frustration, and wonder! I really enjoyed watching it all come together. Every time I tested it during the build was such a satisfying experience!

6. One small tip for future crafters:

Take it slow, ask for help when you need it. It’s ok to walk away from it when it feels frustrating. Check often to make sure all the gears are running smoothly so you can fix it without having to take too many things apart.

  • Why did you choose Coffee Factory (EAB02)?

I chose the Dream Coffee Factory as I recently completed the Gift Factory and felt the Coffee Factory was a similar model in the “factory” theme and since I love mechanical models, this was an obvious next build.

  • Before you started, what did you expect or worry about?

As with all mechanical models, I worry about smooth running gears and also any “conveyor belts”. If any problems with any gears can cause big issues. My expectation was this would be another great build.

  • What surprised you during the crafting process?

Since already did the Gift Factory, I was surprised how much easier it was doing the Coffee Factory having learned from past mistakes.

  • Was there any moment that almost made you give up?

There’s always a moment in almost all builds but I never give up even if that calls for partial disassembly to fix something. If frustrated I walk away and come back next day before I do any damage.

  • What does this craft really bring you?

My Wooden Model “addiction” started when a friend gave me a simple Green House Book Nook as a gift and it snowballed from there. It’s a great hobby and for me it’s very relaxing and rewarding after each build is done.

  • One small tip for future crafters:

My biggest “tips” are to:

  • Enjoy the process.
  • Read instructions Extremely carefully and Multiple times for each step as simple mistakes can be made if a part is wrong direction etc.
  • Wax very well (but don’t overdo as wax “clumps” or extra shavings can gum up parts and have the opposite effect to have smooth running parts). Even if instructions don’t say to wax a specific part, my process is that any round part or gear that my rotate should be deburred and sanded and waxed.
  • If ever stuck or frustrated, step away and come back later.
  • And Finally, use these groups if you need help. We are always here to gladly help out but withhold any negativity as that never helps.

I discovered this model and immediately loved the idea and the aesthetic of it. I had already built the Christmas Gift Factory before, so I really wanted to try this one too.

What I enjoyed the most was how entertaining it is to build. I absolutely love assembling puzzles :two_hearts:

Not really. I think the most fragile part is always the conveyor belt. Although I have to admit my own chaos… at first everything worked perfectly when I tested it, but after some time I tried it again and now the belt goes backwards and steals the coffees instead of delivering them :joy: I honestly don’t know how to fix it yet. I guess it might be something related to the motor changing direction.

Yes, definitely! It looks really beautiful once finished, no matter where you place it, and it’s very fun to build. 100% recommended

My Coffee Factory experience not from rolife but I really wanna contribute here…

1. Why did you choose Coffee Factory?

I’ve always been fascinated by mechanical and intricate miniature designs, and the Coffee Factory immediately caught my eye. The combination of warm, cozy lighting, the industrial aesthetic of the gears, and the sheer level of tiny, realistic details made it a must-build for me. It looked like the perfect balance of a creative art project and a satisfying mechanical puzzle.

2. Before you started, what did you expect or worry about?

Looking at the box, I was honestly a bit worried about the complexity of the wiring for the lights and whether the delicate wooden gears would fit together smoothly without breaking. When you see that many tiny pieces on the wooden sheets, it’s always a little intimidating at first. I expected it to take a lot of patience, especially when handling the fragile components.

3. What surprised you during the crafting process?

I was incredibly surprised by how precisely engineered everything was. The pieces fit together with amazing accuracy, and the material (wood & plastic) quality was sturdy enough to handle careful assembly without snapping. What really delighted me, though, was seeing how the small, individual details like the tiny coffee bean elements and the structures suddenly came together to create massive depth once assembled.

4. Was there any moment that almost made you give up?

There was a moment during the intricate gear alignment where a piece wasn’t aligning perfectly, and I thought I had miscalculated a previous step. It felt a bit frustrating and I had to step away for an hour. But after taking a break and looking at the schematics with fresh eyes, I realized it just needed a gentle, precise adjustment. Patience definitely pays off :100:

5. What does this craft really bring you?

Building this was pure therapy. It demands your full focus, which completely disconnects you from daily screen time and stress. The feeling of turning a flat sheet into a three-dimensional, glowing piece of art is incredibly rewarding. Now, every time I see it lit up on my shelf, it brings a sense of accomplishment and it’s a great conversation starter when any guest see this.1

6. One small tip for future crafters:

Don’t rush the prep work! Take your time sanding down the connection points smoothly, especially for any moving parts, and use a tiny bit of wax if things feel tight. Also, having a good pair of fine tweezers and a steady, well-lit workspace will make your crafting experience ten times smoother in my opinion.
