When Christmas grows closer I always start feeling a little nostalgia for waking up as a child with my heart filled with excitement and then having to wait through breakfast before rushing to the living room. Bowing our heads in a prayer of thanks and trying my best to wait patiently while my mom handed out presents for us to open. Each kid, of which I am the youngest of five and thus always last, opened presents and we would oohh and aahh appropriately at each gift opened while secretly wishing they would hurry up.
Once all the gifts were opened and the mess we made cleaned up, I would spend the rest morning playing with whatever toys I had received, Star Wars and GI Joe were top of the line toys back then, happily lost in my own little world until the enticing smells of dinner would pull me back to reality.
Without fail my mom would lay out enough food to feed a small army and we would laugh and discuss our presents while stuffing our face with deliciousness. After the meal I would help my mom and sister clean up before returning to my new toys. Normally we would find a Christmas related moving to watch on TV or if there was enough snow on the ground we get bundled up and go sledding.
The night would be filled with dinner leftovers and pumpkin pie while we sat around and listened to my dad quietly snoring on the couch, ok maybe not so quietly that man could rattle the rafters. Soon everyone but me would be settled into bed and dreaming of sugar plums, I would stay up until 2:00 AM so that I could watch Star Trek which is still a post Christmas tradition for me.
For my Rolife kit, I am choosing the Hot Air Balloon. Mainly because the Christmas season lifts my spirits and takes me to a happy place.
