This is a very different ROKR model from the company’s newer kits. It is large, built from heavy wood, and powered by a spring-driven mechanism. The design reminded me more of something from one of the Eastern European model manufacturers.
This tractor definitely made me work for it! I needed my rubber mallet several times, and installing the spring nearly defeated me. Nearly. I powered through, got everything working, and enjoyed the challenge, even when I wasn’t sure whether I was building the tractor or fighting it.
The kit did not include any wax, although the moving parts almost certainly needed it. Fortunately, I had my own and applied it anywhere friction might interfere with the mechanism.
I bought John Deere green and yellow paint specifically for this build. I wanted it to be a tribute to my farm-boy heritage and to the tractors I first learned to drive more than 55 years ago. The classic colors really brought the model to life.
Despite the difficulties, I am very happy with the finished tractor. It is substantial, mechanical, and unlike anything in ROKR’s current lineup. I continue to scan eBay for these older ROKR kits because there is just something about them that appeals to me.
But after wrestling with this one, I think it is time to move on to something newer, lighter, and a little more cooperative!
WOW! Where on Earth did you find this one? I have never seen and I’ve done all of the engineering series and LOTS of cars and trucks. I NEED this one. You did an amazing job!
@GWVan60 heck yeah!!! Loving this!! You a great job. The fact that it means so much to you makes it even more special. Now I can’t get than song out of my head….
