👍 [Beginner Tips] Fat hands - any tips

Hi everyone,

I been having an issue with all my builds were I break a piece due to my hands. Does anyone have any tips during builds to prevent this?

Maybe i need to calm down a bit haha

I wish I had a clue as sometimes I get a little heavy handed too. I just broke a chair leg! I try to be gentle and take my time but sometimes it happens. One thing I did learn is if it is a snap together to where you are trying to get it on to a little peg, rather than really force, try sanding the peg a little. Also applying a little wax helped me when I was doing the flowers.

I definitely do find the click together pieces tricky sometimes. Like @jeanneL said you want to try sanding first.

Sometimes if I think it’s going to take a lot of effort to fit in I sort of wiggle the piece left and right while applying light force over and over again and it eventually goes in the slot.

Hope that makes sense!

If I am struggling to get two pieces together, I will lightly sand and wax the tabs to be inserted. Using a pair of needle nose pliers might be helpful as well. Wax would also help on plastic parts

Waxing is actually a really good tip I need to implement!

I haven’t built any ROKR sets so my experience comes from the book nooks and they don’t give you wax but I really think it should be included lol.

Dont use to much pressure to put parts together. Sanding the taps can help or a little wax on them makes parts click together easier.

Even a candle will suffice @JDisaduck . It helps immensely!

You’re not alone at all. It happens to many of us. Using tweezers instead of fingers for small parts helps a lot, and taking things a bit slower really makes a difference. Waxing or lightly sanding pieces before pressing them in can also help prevent breaks. You’ve got this!

Don’t use too much force. If it doesn’t go in, don’t force it; just check again. If the joints are correct, they will connect easily. For some places, you may need to use a specialized hammer.

Some of the kits comes with thin part that are quite thin. Even trying to get it out of the board with too much pressure can break it as well. In that situation I would use a scalpel or a small knife to cut the joint. And definitely don’t apply too much force if it’s doesn’t click in, double check the directions again.

Thank you!

When I have to push the pieces together, I wiggle them a bit and gently press them together. If it’s very difficult, you can sand the points a bit.
